last night, when i was bored and browsing neopia... I came across probably the most perverse and disgusting user lookup EVER. I immediately sent in a report, of course...
but they had pictures exploiting and hurting young girls... like girls that were 7 years old.
It's frozen today, thank god. Someone must be on neopets monitoring...
I've never been more sickened and shocked by something in my life.
i even had nightmares about this last night.
I hope TNT sent in a report to the police with a copy of the pictures, as I advised them to do.
I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of these poor girls died from the abuse.
at least, even over a weekend, it was frozen right away...

As sad as this situation is, Neopets is probably already doing the best they can to keep this sort of horrendous crap off of their site. There are just so many users on the site, I'm not sure it's possible for TNT to keep track of them all (or at least what each posts on their individual user lookup).

Thank GOD you found that page and reported it, though. Hopefully the owner will get what's coming to them....

EDIT: ...Why the heck do people post this stuff on a virtual pets site, anyway? (Although I guess I should be asking why people upload this stuff onto the internet, period.)

There are sick people all over this planet but its impossible for neopets to stop them if they want to give us a little freedom in making our user lookups. Its sad to say but with millions of members they cannot hire enough people to check all the user lookups. People change them all the time, new members register all the time.

Hopefully they did send it to the police.
I know big companies (like Yahoo) have sent reports to police because of things like this happening on their site. I was reading a story about it last nigh, actually.
If Neopets doesn't, they're making a huge mistake.

A quote from one of the Neoboards (which accordingly may or may not be true):

"Someone has been sending out neomails with awards for people to put on their petpages. Then he goes and changes up the picture to reflect something nasty."

The poster said that the low-life who is doing this then tells everyone to send in a report for inappropriate pictures. If true, this is really crossing the line. An innocent person could get in serious real-life trouble.

That is really awful! If it gave you nightmares sigh_driven, imagine how a younger person, like 14 or 8 year old girl would react! Thank God you found it and reported! I hope neo contacted the police, that is something that can't be ignored!

I really hate to say it, because I adore some of the beautiful and just plain hilarious look ups out there.... but I just don't think the current system is working. There is always a ridiculous amount of people using their lookups as scam pages, covering info in one way or another that Neo has stated against the rules, putting up (or trying to) Cookie grabbers, and lewd images. I've stumbled across some pretty rough images on look ups myself (all involving adults though). What Sigh found is awful beyond words, particularly because neo has such a huge amount of kids.

I don't know what they could change, I've never done anything to my shop or lookup, so I can't imagine how much work it would involve. I'm sure the number of people they would have to hire just to "approve" look ups before they went up would be insane, and so would the time frame each user would have to wait for said approval. I just have to wonder sometimes how many of neo's problems directly relate to giving us the freedom to create on those pages.

It's just a shame because on the surface neo seems like a safe place for kids, a parent could play along for a few weeks and think, "oh this is a great site" and have no idea! My account is 64 months and its only been with in the past year and some change that I have stopped recommending neo to family and friends with younger kids, it took me that long to run across the more lewd stuff.

I know you can't sanitize the world... but people obeying the rules and keeping smut, especially That Kind of smut, of a site heavily populated by kids would be nice!

TNT has said in the editorial that they will report some things to the police, such as death threats or online stalkers, so I'm sure they'd consider the contents of that lookup bad enough that they'd collect all the IP and user info and notify the authorities. It's good that you found and reported it.

i just hope it wasn't on there for too long... the user hadn't been online for a week, so i know it was up there at least that long.

Just a reminder to those people flattered by an award for a pet site or any other 'graphic award' to save the image to thier own photobucket account. It is not only respectful to another's bandwidth, but protects you from and mal-intent of from the awardee.

Sigh_driven, I'm sorry you had to see that. I have never accidentally run across something like that, but back when I was in high school I had to watch the movie Sybil in my psych class. It affected me so strongly that I began shaking uncontrollably and I had to be taken home for the rest of the day. I had "flashbacks" of the things I saw in that movie for months.

One thing that Neopets could do to prevent that kind of image from going up would be to require any shop customization to be approved. They could hire one person whose entire job it was to check them. I don't know how you'd watch out for the bait-and-switch thing (where they start with one image and replace it with another). Perhaps code could be written that would disallow re-uploading of the pictures, or i don't know how to say what i'm thinking of, but something like... you know how when you can tell your browser to check for new content, so if an image gets changed, your browser re-downloads it? maybe they could do a check like that?

I'm really sorry you had to see that. I know that if I saw anything like that I'd have nightmares and probably get scared of everything.

I seriously can't believe these people. It makes me so mad when I hear about that kind of stuff. Those poor little girls!

I accept that TNT aren't superman or a supreme force, but these things should be dealt with before anything else.
