For those topics one could describe as the forum equivalent of a twinkie. Word games, forum contests and giveaways are all the rage here.

Probably because all the other groups are in here- I know this one isn't pointless, but it's still a group. I suppose we could kindly ask a mod to move it, but I think the chances are slim.
As for a petition to make it a usergroup, I would rather everybody use their time and energy to make petitions for better animal abuse laws in their area. It seems that they are far, far, far too kind in most places.

Indeed, Dawn. I'm gonna see if there's an EarthForce orginization next year, it was really cool last year... I could be in the Speak Out section, last year we made a song and it worked really well. The problem is most cities concentrate on stupid stuff like "No Ferrets because I don't like em" and "No leashes over 8 feet"- when they should be doing stuff like "Confine pets in heat inside in a comfortable area", "Purposeful hurting of animals can result in up to ten years in jail..."
I mean, when people talk about "Animal control", they mean "Let's Murder Pit Bulls!" in Denver. Seriously, it's sick. What worries me is I think Animal Cops may be staged, and they actually do these things to animals to make a good show. Usually I love Animal Planet, but these shows are so continuously severe and stuff I gotta think they think it all out beforehand and have a script and tortured animals brought in. I dearly hope not... If not, then there's a lot of really sick people out there!

I despise Animal Cop shows. I think they're all scams; I bet you that all of those "cops" are actors trying to make money. And as for the animals- probably slathered in some type of doggie-make up. It can do magic, you know...
I don't like the laws against pit bulls. Just because some of the breed are violent doesn't mean they all are. I know for a fact that they're at least three nice pit bulls in the world- all of which live on my street. Now, if three nice pit bulls live on my street ALONE, chances are that there are many, many nice pit bulls- yet they have to be put to sleep just because of what other dogs of their breed do. It sickens me.

Agreed. My friend's got a great big German Shephard, but he wouldn't harm a fly. Then you see Jack Russell Terriers terrorizing the country and wonder why it's the big black dogs getting penalized for their breed.

*penalized. Heh.
Yep. Rottweillers used to be outlawed in Denver too (I forget if they still are) and they are really, really sweet. I know a lot of rottwielers, and none of them have ever hurt anything. (One was put back in the pound because he "nipped" but he was a teething puppy. The owners, by the way, are apparently idiots.) I think they got rid of the law because some cops had rottweillers as canine assistants because they're so intelligent. Um, duh...
Hm, shall we talk about pounds/animal shelters as I suggested? I've got a *lot* to say about them...

There was an older lady with one of those big hats with the flowers and everything on it, and this dog lept up and stole the hat. It was pretty funny, of course the lady got her hat back. And the dog nearly got took away from the owner
Also, not all rotties and bulldogs are friendly.. My friend had his hand ripped apart by one, and one ripped the leg of my pants when I was biking by, but some are nice. Its just their nature sometimes... Do you get shot if your not a nice person?
Also, if anyone has idea's for pamphlets or anythings... I would welcome them. I want to make a bunch and put them places.. But I don't know what to do really. Something interesting that doesn't give the impression that someones trying to make them read it.
Know something rediculous? My friend has this cat-- The cat got crystals. They took it to the vet, it was going to cost more than 800$ to get it fixed, and they couldn't gaurentee it would stay ok. So, he was going to put the cat down. That was going to cost more than $400.

Oh, yes- all breeds vary. That's basically the point I'm trying to prove- there are nice and mean kind of dogs in every breed. Yet, pitbulls and rottweilers are the dogs punished for having mean dogs in the breed.
Ten days left to enter the contest. Details on the first page.

Oi, the contest. Forgot about that.
Ok, well.. Today I spent 30mins walking some of the dogs at the humane society, 1hour playing with the dogs and cats, and 20 mins grooming the dogs.
Also, I spent about 5 minutes fixing the cat bells on their collars if that counts.

Wonderful!!!
Do you happen to have a job at the Humane Society? Or do you just volunteer there sometimes?

Forgot about the constest also. Oh well, I'll start with today... (Even though 3 days ago we bathed Wolfie, which takes about an hour.)
Ok, lessee... about ten combined minutes feeding pets, about thirteen minutes trying to make Wolfie, who was feverish today, feel better, five minutes brushing him to get all the fur he's shedding out, and about thirty minutes stroking Mango and scratching him behind the ears this morning in bed - he's so hypnotically cute! (Does that count?)
If I had a rodent again, I'd probably have taken way more time playing with it, but I just can't deal with another rodent death, I'm depressed on a weekly basis as it is.
Woah Jen! You can volunteer at a shelter? *envy* I'm not allowed to (too young) which is distinctly unfair as a younger friend is allowed to volunteer at the Dumb Friends League- which is too far for me to drive to often.
Now, about pounds. I've only been in one, and it had good conditions for the most part- but the cats were kept in the main hall in teensy cages, which was very unfair as the dogs got large pens all to themselves and cats tend to be very claustrophobic. Yes, most of the dogs were howling and barking, but the same is true with all pounds I know of. Besides, they were very nice with the animals and took their concern into hand- a pair of German Sheperds who were madly in love were put in a double-pen, and a special note said "Please adopt us as a pair! We love to be together".
Then again, many shelters I've heard of are terrible. Really, they are. Often several dogs are crammed into the same small pen, causing fights. Plus if an animal isn't adopted, they drag it off, yowling, and kill it. (Earlier a class decided to donate to Denver area animal shelters, also noticing the strays all around Denver. Quite purposefully, they did *not* donate *any* money- which would be used to buy chemicals to kill animals. Instead they donated food and brushes and food dishes and things like that.)
Shelters also have a leaning towards shoddy cat centers. Cats are treated with far less respect than dogs, because they fetch a smaller price in pounds and are not as famed for loyalty. (I'll note my cat Lucky is the most loyal creature I have ever seen. Eomer anyone?) Cats are often not provided with litter boxes, and as creatures who pride themselves on being clean, this can make them very angry- or they may refuse to eat. Also they are not played with nearly as much. Sigh.

Ok, I walked Wolfie today (about 25 minutes- long walk, plus I kinda had toget him away from the dogs at one house, which took a while)
... and... hrm.. oh yeah feeding, I'd say 5 minutes combined again. And Shmoo was sleeping in my bed again this morning, so I'd say 10 minutes of scratching his ears... aww.
I need to play with Lucky or something o.O
