The reason I've never done any major/minor surgery other than lancing on myself is that I get uncomfortable at the sight of my own blood. I don't mind other blood, and I've done surgeries on rats and put intestines back into dogs (they were taken out for a reason, it wasn't all frankenstein-y), and no ill effects. I thought it was kind of cool, actually. Still do, even though I'm not doing that anymore.
But my own blood? It makes me lightheaded. And for some reason it's always associated with pain, which is another thing I'm not a fan of.
That dislike of pain is, coincidentally, the reason that I've never auditioned for American Idol.
