For those topics one could describe as the forum equivalent of a twinkie. Word games, forum contests and giveaways are all the rage here.

Why do I always typo "this" as "thins"?

Also, the program I use to record my voice only records for one minute. I wouldn't think that's too short, but I just want to make sure.

yeah i do see your point, i will talk with the judges to not judge too much on the vocals, but the whole performance and presentation itself.

one minute is no problem at all, but if that brothers you a lot, try Audacity
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
i have posted a tutorial in the first post.

Wait a minute, the actual vocals are an enormous part of the performance. If the vocals aren't going to be as important as the "performance and presentation", then what's the point of this whole competition?

Sat Mar 17, 2007 7:01 pm

Going to have to agree with Mayan, I mean, shouldn't the vocals be the most important thing?

i think its up to the judges' judgment, i have little control over that
i also think it is very important to prevent this from becoming something serious and competitive.

I thought we weren't supposed to use background music anyway. I'm a bit confused now.

That's kind of what I was trying to say before...since most of us are not "star-quality", it feels like it's just for fun, but if someone comes in who is actually a professional singer, it feels more serious, and of course the rest of us won't have much of a chance.

Sat Mar 17, 2007 10:00 pm

I'm pretty sure you can use background music, but it's not required.

Sat Mar 17, 2007 10:24 pm

Honestly i don't give a darn who's a professional singer and who isn't. I really don't think that gives an unfair advantage. I've met people in high school choir that have better vocals than famous singers. As a judge, I will be looking for attitude, pitch, tone, and other singer-stuff :P
Honestly people, I'm not gonna be simon cowell, but I will be honest. (but nice :D)
Kym has a whole heck of a lot of talent and experience, but please don't let that intimidate you. Just do your best, that's all we can ask for.

Oh and on the subject of background music... Blue, please let me know if this is incorrect, but I would assume that it is an option to have, as long as you edit it into the recording yourself. (No outside help) As far as fairness goes, it will NOT give you an unfair advantage if you have background music... in fact, if it isn't edited in right, it very well may take away from your vocals. So please, if you don't know how to add background music in that is soft and in the background, only ENHANCING your vocals, don't do it at all. Acapella can be a wonderful way to go ;)

Well, since the idea is to choose the best singer, it wolud be a bit stupid to not have the best singer involved...

I don't mind if I get pwned by Kym; he would deserve it.

Great point there. And exactly what I was attempting to say XD

Hollaback Girl is REALLY tempting me... you know? (simply because it would be a hilarious inside joke.)

But... that would just be strange.

Good luck to all the contestants. :)

And don't be too concerned about how things are done, this contest is meant to be fun. I'm sad I couldn't join this time, (I don't have a mircrophone :() but I'll be sure to participate in the next one. (If there is).

Mon Mar 19, 2007 12:42 pm

Yes, yes, good luck!! :D

I'll see if I can join (if there is) next time. Although I suck and can only sing Japanese songs at the moment.

Have fun!!
