think if you simply equip your item, it shouldn't make it visible, but who knows. Anyway, I don't think it would be a good idea to display what you were about to use. But then I could see a scam going where someone equips a bunch of crud and they have that veiwable using the customization screen. But their real equipped items are very rare and powerful ones. Then someone might fight them thinking that what they saw was what the person had, then they would loose. So if they did that, I think it should be sort of like a scam. But maybe it would be allowable. I mean, people would have to take a risk. Maybe what they see the pet wearing on the quick ref is what it will use, and maybe not. I don't know if it would really be a scam or not, or just tricky and a risk you'd have to take. Because no one says you have to display what you are planning to use. But displaying really weak stuff and then using strong stuff seems tricky and underhanded.
It might be underhanded, but I don't think this would count as a scam because
everyone can do it. It's just one of the risks you take when you battle.
It would be comparable to if I had a low-level, unpainted pet without lookup/petpage, and I didn't do much to my account so that I looked like a newbie that would be easy to defeat. But then in battle I unleashed a ton of suuuuuuuper expensive and powerful weapons.
That's kind of obnoxious of me, but it's not a scam, because my opponent and everyone else also has the opportunity to do the same trick. A scam would be if I bypassed the system and gave myself an advantage that
other people can't have. This is just a (albeit not very nice) battle strategy.
Edit: It just occurred to me - glasses! If this feature goes through, then I CAN MAKE A PET WEAR GLASSES! Ohhhhh my little geek heart sings with joy!
