I know I'm posting very soon after my previous post, but I really wanted to reply to this. I think that assuming this is a late April Fool's joke will only lead to more disappointment. It's clear that they've been working on this for a LONG time. I doubt they would put in effort to this extent, just to play a cute prank. Neopetz, the fifty fake pets, they all took some effort, but not this much.

I don't think anyone really assumes it's a late April Fools joke, we're just in denial that this is neopets from now on.

I guess that's true, but they did have about a month to make all of this (which would explain why most of the pets look like barf), so maybe they really, really rushed it or something. The only effort might've just been the coding. I just gotta believe this is all a hoax - the site's gone so far down the crapper that if they don't change back soon, I'm done with 'em (and so will many, many others be).

Oh, and I glanced over that and it looks pretty standard for any site that allows you to upload content. I'm sure Myspace has something similar and probably YouTube too. Once you upload anything to those sites it is no longer yours in any way shape or form. I'm not sure, but I think Neopets already has something similar in their T&C regarding drawings you do of your pets, but I might be totally making that up.

I thought this thread was going to be some kind of joke and neo going too, how should I put this, commercial.

Uploading videos and the new layout don't scream childish to me at all though. The layout actually looks a little "older" or something. Sure, a lot of the pets look like a seven year old girls estranged fantasy (see: Fire Shoyru, yuck).

I think a lot of us need to remember that this is, in fact, a site geared towards young people as well. Don't expect them to cater just to us. The video thing seems like a watered down YouTube. Of course this will eat up server space, bandwidth, ect, but I get the impression money is being pumped in neo en mass.

An option to have old pet graphics and an option to use the old layout would fix everything, and it wouldn't be hard to implement. At least, not from a corporation's standpoint. If everything fails neo will just get sold off, I think that is the point everyone should be concerned about.

Imagine if Disney owned it. /shudders

You know, I think I'd prefer it if Disney owned it.

Disney has the sensibility (at least in the parks) to not do away with something thousands of people love.
Even when they do revamp, they don't absolutely kill the original and completely re-invent the wheel.
They just see what could be added and actually get visitor input.

Thinking about it, I might be able to have some fun with making neopets-related videos..

But it still sounds like a very, very iffy idea to me.

The new layout has really grown on me, it's just a bit too cluttered...
And I think I'll be able to live with the pet redraws, for the most part. =/

Neopets is on its way down. I knew it would happen eventually...but I didn't realise it would happen so SOON.

All the new changes are awful. I have already seen where people are quiting neopets. The new things added to this simple kids site have turned it into a sort of media. It's turned from a fun place to hang to, just a difficult place all over.
I hate the changes and hope they'll get rid of them, and soon.

Fortunately, I can just ignore it.
Unfortunately, it's going to eat up bandwidth, monitors' time, and other resources that TNT could better use on other parts of the site. And it'll attract more brain dead pre-teens looking for a watered down kiddie myspace or whatever.

Well, I'm trying to go on with a mind set like this: I'm just gonna ignore all that smurf, and keep playing neopets like I always have until it finally becomes more annoying than fun, then I'll just quit, take my characters with me, and find something else to waste my time on.

Neo isn't going to last forever, so I'll just enjoy it while I can.

All I can say is: good luck moderating it, neo. 'Cause you sure as hell are going to need all the luck you can get. I can see how youtube is coping with deleting copyrighted material, and generally all the stuff that's against their T&C. They fail. Rather spectacularly. And I have no idea why neo think they can do it better.

I'm beginning to think that this is going to die off from lack of interest. I can't help but think that they'd have a few videos up for us to test-view by now if they'd gotten any.
