I guess neopets is trying to look more "Web 2.0" ("...we've taken it out of the 90's... blahblahblah") Is it *really* that bad? I'm thinking there's a fair percentage who reacted negatively simply because it was unfamiliar, rather than downright ugly. People tend to react negatively to unfamiliar objects, as it is instinctive. Besides, change is inevitable, it would have happened sooner or later. I'm taking a wait-and-see approach, give it a month or so before I decide if I like it or not.

As to the pet redraws, again, I guess it's more unfamiliar than ugly, but that depends on individual taste (recall the earlier redraws; each one probably provoked similar reactions, but after some time you got used to it and perhaps even grew to like it). They *do* look lobotomized/high at the moment, but they will probably be animated to show feelings or similar (like yahoo! avatars)

Btw, I'm not defending the changes; I am neither for or against them, I just want everyone to calm down a bit. Give it time, see what develops, that sort of thing. I guess one reason why I'm not very attached to the original looks is that I've only played for a year (compared to most PPTers who have done so for... far longer) I do agree that TNT has to spend more time with its adult demographic, as we (or most of us, anyway) are the ones with the money.

edit: eep, I may have gone off tangent here; looks more like it belongs to the new layout bit, sorry...

The Xwee's look like their flipping you the bird.

:roflol: I have to agree with you!!

Whether they're holding their hands out to hold something or they're all mad about their makovers (especially the Xwee's), it still looks really awkward.

Thank you! Haha! Now I like can like xweetoks again. :roflol:

Anyway, back to the original topic. They could have easily disabled abandoning pets before shutting down the pound, so none would get stuck in transfers. But they didn't. Because clearly they don't care about the players.

Can you still abandon pets now? Wow, the pound is gonna be overflowing when it opens back up.

I'm so so glad I wasn't trying to transfer one of my pets when all this hit the fan.

You know, I STILL have a little faith in TNT and think they MIGHT have closed the pound because of all the people pounding their beloved pets due to the redraws. So, there is a VERY SLIGHT chance that some time this week they'll change the artwork and give the pets back saying something like: "now that the redraws are a little less horrible, decide again if you really want to get rid of your pets".
It is a one in a million chance, but still. But it's probably just me going overly optimistic.

Umm... something like this would be TECHNICALLY possible, wouldn't it? I mean, recognising previous owners of pounded pets? o_O

And if you're transferring between your own side accounts, *you* would see this when setting up the receiving account to adopt? Am I missing something here?)

You're not wrong there. I'd have it all set up and ready to go. To make sure the link is ready and loaded and the recieving account has the correct np. Even if that account isn't mine, I usually check for them and tell them how much np to have out.

I've got over the changes once I found out I can take the NASA suit off my Alien Aisha. It doesn't work for me fully yet (glitched) but the option's there and it's grand. I also took the ugly pajamas off the baby neopet boochi cursed me with. He looks half decent now. =D

So long as they don't change anything that we were enjoying I don't mind. I'd love a BD revamp though. That would seriously rock. So long as they get rid of the movement stat entirely, as it's useless.

I think you can still pound them, you just can't adopt them. This pound fix is just to stop the ripper stripper glitch that I found.

What would be funny is if there was absolutely no way to fix this glitch. If there wasn't a way to fix it, then maybe they'd get rid of customization and give us our old pets back. Ha, I wish. But I know that won't happen. They'd just redo the pound so that if you pound a pet it turns blue. Which would make since, because it would be so sad.

The Movement stat isn't totally useless. The faster your pet is, the better chance it can catch a Faerie (and hence get an RE receiving a Bottled one). :) Althought in the actual Battledome, I guess Agility doesn't help?

Really? I've never heard of that...or had that much luck with finding bottled faeries, and my pet has semi-decent agility stats.

Edit: Shame higher agility doesn't increase your change of finding a p/b :P

In my 7 years of playing neopets, I've never heard of that. I've got labbed pets with incredibly high movement points and I can't say I noticed more faeries falling into my hands on that account or I'd have upped it on my BD pet so I could sell them.

But it's the BD I'm most concerned about. It'd be a pain for many BDers having spent millions on their pets stats to suddenly have to care about agility.

A deep, unrealistic part of me is hoping that this long pound "Down for maintainance" thing is because they've changed their minds and are creating a transfer center... I mean, we have a new plot, new layout, pets being able to be dressed in clothes.... Well, I can dream anyway.

Well BDers don't have to worry about that stat unless they choose too. In a way it's a decent stat. You can get a Heavy Robe of Thievery with agility at 100 and intelligence at 200. It's a 100% stealer and a viable option so you don't have to spend millions on a sticky hand or other stealer. It's 350k for anyone wondering. And yes I'm buying one soon because I can. :D

But back to the topic at hand. I don't care much for a transfer center but I know it would definitely appeal to other users on the site. I do wish they could give a projected date for when the pound will be open or what the issue is. That'd be some customer service. ;) And I don't think we should have to wait until a new NT comes out.

I'd love a transfer center... It would make lending that much easier. No time messups, no problems with freezing computers... I would have no problem lending my pets all the time.

Edit: And perhaps it would save all the pets stuck in the pound, after inserting a pet in a pound they could put an option which a pet could be adopted by certain people if you wanted to, or make an application for adopting and you could approve.

Actually,

Quote:
I've heard that by donating to the money tree, your can increase your chances of a random event. Is this true? If so, when donating neopoints, does it go by the amount you donate or the number of times that you donate? I also heard that taking items from the money tree can decrease your chances of a random event. Is that true? ~ im_102_years_old
None of that is true at all. Random events are just that... random. :) The ONLY way your chances of receiving Random Events is increased is when you're using the Birthday sidebar theme, and that's only available on your or Neopets' birthday.

Hmm, odd. Well, I remember seeing that from a reliable source (on Neopets itself, though that can be outdated or oft obscure; or possibly in a Neopets Magazine Editorial) but I can't find the link or resource right now.

It seems my main (trained) pet does catch more lately, but I think in 2 years she only caught a total of 3. One a 'long' time ago, two 'recently'. It is not much 'proof' but your comment above doesn't really disprove it either. It is not so much determined by incidence (refreshing a page; thus increasing a rate of possibility for an RE) but a quality of the attribute. I suspect that even if one were to train to increase Movement the effect would still be minimal over the short term, but not entirely immeasurable.)

It is not so much a normal regular random RE but a 'notification' Event since there would be no other way to tell you that you caught a Faerie other than to represent it in an RE fashion as having caught and Bottled it.

If I come across the source, I will post it, but this is off topic here anyway.
