I didn't see anything that really appealed to me and the expiration of items and neocash makes everything even less desireable. Why in the world do they only accept PayPal?? I'd rather shove hot coals up my nose than be forced to sign up for PayPal. They've ruined pets with redraws and neglected the rest of the site for THIS? For me to spend money on useless pixels the items will have to be permanent, paying by credit card will have to be an option and... let's see... I want a rare item code for every $10 spent. :P
Oh well. I'll just play my games, buy stocks, keep my pets in the Neolodge and try to ignore the whole deplorable mess.

Some of the items are really attractive. I liked some of the backgrounds enough that I even consdered paying a dollar for them. However, once I buy something, I don't want to have to constantly "maintain" it. I'm not that interested in paying for an item that lasts only 3 months.

I don't think this will affect the site too much, b ut hopefull y the artists will put as much effort into free items as paid itesm.

Im really disgusted with the whole process of how they basically redesigned the whole site in order to charge us more. Im currently on a leave of abscense until July 19th so Ill be able to see how the NC Mall Open Beta pans out but if goes in the direction I think it is, Im quitting, its just not the same site I decided to play some time ago and I wont let habit lead me into blind corporate support.

Hopefully the expiration thing is related to the beta testing. I can't imagine buying items just to lose them to an expiration. That would be throwing money away. As someone who earns my income I don't throw money away. When items and neocash don't expire I will participate in neocash purchases.

I am concerned that rare books and gourmet foods bought by neocash would make it difficult for neopoint only players to win trophys.

Nope, the expiration thing will likely stick. But three months is AMAZING. Most games I buy items in , the items only last for one month. I'd much rather pay for a three-month item than a one-month.

Though I don't think the NeoCash itself should expire.. that's really lame.

Some of the backgrounds are really pretty, but I still don't like how the items expire and stuff. I mean I know that it's a business and they're always trying to find new ways to earn money, but this just seems like a bit much to me. I mean they're getting money from me for Premium, I need anything else draining my money away. ;)

I was definitely going to try this until the "expiration" bit came along...

I hope they lose their socks with this lame idea :x

Instead of having the items expire, a better way of making money would be to have the items available in limitted quantity, for short periods of time. People are more likely to want to spend money on an item if there's only one week per month to buy it, but it lasts indefinitely.

Edit: Although I'm not upset specifically by the NC Mall, I really hope that the reason so much of the pet art looks rushed isn't because the artists were too busy drawing beautiful backgrounds for the payed feature. That is a disappointing thought. I doubt there is a chance of most pets getting a touchup now. Now that clothes are coming out, it would be far too much artwork to revamp a pet. :/

I wouldn't be bothered at all by the mall, actually, even if I choose not to use the feature, if only I didn't feel that they're giving it attention that they didn't give our pets. It's possible that the reason the art was rushed was because there was a deadline as to when the mall had to open, although I would hope that's not the case.

I'm just hoping that the free backgrounds (if they make any) will be animated too. Honestly, as nice as some of the things look, its a huge step over the line for Neopets...but maybe with the revenue they get off of this they can hire more staff to maintain other neglected areas of the site  . Well, we shall see how everything works out soon enough...

edit: Now that I see the exchange rate, I'm a bit surprised, although I'm not familiar with other sites that offer such services. I'm still not using it, though.

*sigh* I was actually kinda looking forward to this, even though I agree with all the negative things people have been saying, I thought it might be kinda fun to buy a thing or two.

Until I read the dreaded word expire. :x
I've shelled out real money for virtual items before on other sites, but they were things that last forever. There's no way in hell I'm gonna spend real money on something that only lasts a couple of months, that's ridiculous! I wouldn't even spend fake money (NPs) on that!

I discovered an interesting petpage protesting the whole thing, I wonder how it'll do...
I'm holding out on sending in my username for the time being in case this gets shot down by TNT and users get in trouble, though I'd think/hope not. I'll give it another day or two.

Eh. I think the whole Neocash mess is misguided and symptomatic of the decay of the once-awesome Neopets community, but that petpage isn't really helping. I mean really - "we must spread the word about the evil of the Mall. the rebellion begins soon, are you with us?" - did they get their lines from Communist propaganda? It's probably too late to do anything about Neocash, which is a horrible shame, but going on about 'evil' and 'rebellions' isn't going to convince TNT that reasonable people have reasonable concerns about this.

Much as I hate the corporate gluttony, Neopets is not a democracy, and crusading against TNT won't do a blind thing. If you Do Not Want, the only way to stop Neocash being a success is to boycott it and encourage your friends to do the same. Want a real community revolution? Create a society where having a cool-looking pet without a single paid-for item is the ultimate way of earning respect from fellow players.

I'm just happy Neopets is an equal-opportunity site. :)
Customization at the NCMall allows us to create trannie pets. My male lutari was dazzling when trying on the princess dress and tiara.

In my opinion: The NC Mall is perfectly fine, if you are willing to pay for items, go ahead. Neopets is still free isn't it? This makes me glad that I was a tester, and I could buy items for free, and they are still there on my pet :)

I didn't see anything in the mall I just *HAD* to have. It would have to be pretty impressive for me to want it.

I do have a kind of conundrum for you.

If a pet has wings that are not removable, I would say those are "real" wings. Other pets have wings which are removable, therefore, I would say they are not real. For example, the Halloween zafara has removable wings. It is like a child who puts on a dress, fake halo, and fake wings. They can't actually fly in those. But it seems kind of mean to tell a halloween zafara owner that their pet can't fly. I mean, this is a fun website and none of it is real anyway, so if they want to say their pet can fly, then I have no problem with it really.

But anyway, I can't get my krawk's wings off, because they are "real" so I can never give him wings of flame or whatever, if I really wanted to. I don't, because it looks funny. But if they ever made another kind of wing, I might like it. Who knows? But I can't get them off. So It looks funny if I try to put other wings there, because it looks like he has two sets of wings.
