I don't know if some user is doing this or if there is somehow a flaw in the system over at neopets, but my mom has been the victim, for the second time now, of a shop glitch in which, somehow, the price of an expensive item gets swapped with a cheaper item right next to it. The prices apparently stay the same, they are just switched between the two items. She lost 3 expensive items this way. Has anyone heard of this or experienced this for themselves?

Sounds like somebody's coded the shop to scam the person. What's the name of the shop?

Mercurius, did this happen in her shop? After she priced her items and hit the submit key? Or did it happen in a shop she went to visit? Because if it happened in her shop, then I know of it all too well. There is a glitch in Neo that happens every so often where the price submitted doesn't go through and the item picks up the price next to it. Especially if you are using the Order by Cost option. It has been happening for over a year now. Just sporadically and usually when the site is laggy. In fact one hit me about a week ago. I have learned to always check my prices after hitting the submit key.

Yes, I have had this happen before. I normally check the shop front when I've finished stocking, and that's when I notice if the prices have switched. Fortunately I've only lost one item to this glitch (that I know of).

As soon as you notice that this has happened to your prices, the best thing to do is hurry into your shop stock page as fast as you can, click the button at the bottom to select all items, and then remove them all. Empty your shop quick before anyone can snipe the mispriced stuff. You can reprice things later - don't waste time re-entering the prices straight away, because people can still buy them at the wrong price while you're typing in the prices.

Probably there is some way that someone looks at the html code of the shop and they copy that part. Then they take the html code and make their own website and put the code there, but switch things around. Then they make sure all the process/neopets.com/phtml whatever it is that happens as a process to make things happen on neopets, it is a link. They make sure all the buttons link back to that link. Then they buy the item on their own little website that they just made, but the buttons link back to neopets.

I know a long time ago it was possible to do that another way.
Person one could buy an object like a morphing potion. They could copy the html code for that, but put the code on their own website and make it link back to neopets. Then they could somehow feed the potion to another pet.
It was also possible to make an omelette into a petpet or read "eggs" or read "tomato" or play with "mossy rock" or do weird things with items that it wasn't possible to do otherwise.
Neopets caught the people who were reading milk and eggs and flour, because it would show up on the list of things they had read.


And I know it was possible to get the html code for userlookups and put it on another website and fiddle with it, but have everything linking back to neopets, and therefore you could make your lookup say whatever you wanted. I actually did that to mine back when it was possible, so it says I like to eat fudge and stuff, but I am not sure people can still do that or not.
They fixed it so you can't I think. But they said that anyone who did that to their account isn't in trouble, because no one got hurt, they just changed their lookup, so it wasn't hurting anyone or making anyone have an advantage over another person.


Anyway, someone is fiddling with html code I think. But neopets should have a way to track where the items went. I'd report it. They can track it somehow because each item has a special number. So they can know where it went and freeze the person.

I haven't ever had that problem. I usually check the Shop Front to see that everything is priced correctly, and usually it is. If it isn't, I run and go fix it. I guess I'm lucky *knocks on wood*




I think I remember that happening. Some people sent the items to themselves and got bunches of them. Although they froze the people who did it.

Yeah they have a way of tracing all of that. So the people responsible should get caught. Once they know this is happening, they will fix the glitch.

Yes, this was happening in my mom's shop. I would tell her to report the people who bought the things (some are in her shop log) but if it was an error on Neopet's end, then the people who bought the items are not really at fault.

Thank you guys for all your help. I told my mom what was going on and that she just needed to check her shop front every time she adds something. I was afraid someone was in her account stealing the items!

If the same person/people are buying all these items, it is probably people messing with code. But if it is all different people, most likely a glitch and unintentional. Hope everything gets worked out!

Right. I'm sure some of us have unintentionally gotten items that way, but having a lucky shop wiz search. I've had the glitch happen to me (usually when I click the submit button and it doesn't go thru, then refresh) and accidentally sold expensive items for cheap that way.

There's an order by cost option? *blinkblink* Where? I feel really dumb now that I never noticed it.

For me, the Order by Cost option only shows up if I have more than 30 items in my shop.

Oh! That's probably why I never saw it, my shop can only hold 30 items.

I thought "Order by Cost" was only available to Premium Members?

Nope, I had that option available before switching to Premium. It only shows up if you have more than one page of items in your shop (usually about 30 items or so).
