10 silly laws from the British.

I love silly laws. We have tons here in Missouri. It does make you think that at some point they made have been made for a good reason, but now they're just silly and outdated.

feel free to post more silly laws. They're so much fun!

I know that number 4 at least isn't a real law, though it's a common mistake to think it is..

can you explain that law in general to me Igg? I dont get the whole mince pie thing...

& here's some weird American laws by state:
http://www.10-7.com/humor/strange.htm
Quote:
# In Saco, women are forbidden from wearing hats that ``might frighten timid persons, children or animals.''
# In St. Louis, it is illegal for an on-duty firefighter to rescue a woman wearing a nightgown; in order to be rescued, a woman must be fully dressed.
# While children may purchase shotguns in Kansas City, they are not allowed to buy toy cap guns.
# Missouri considers drunkenness an ``inalienable right.''

I'm from St. Louis...thats why its bold lol.

Here are some silly laws in Utah:

Birds have the right of way on all highways.
It is considered an offense to hunt whales. (Utah is a landlocked state; thus, no whales)
It is illegal not to drink milk.
It is illegal to detonate any nuclear weapon. (You can have them, but you just can't detonate them.)

Oh, basically when Cromwell's government banned Christmas that included mince pies, christmas pudding etc. and it's a common misconception that since the law was never repealed that it's still technically a law; but all the laws were repealed so actually it's not.

The first I can believe, but the second doesn't sound right. Hopefully Christmas has been inlawed again, cause otherwise there would be a TON of people in jail...and there just happens to be a Max Security Prison in my town.

Oh, and which state is it illegal to tie a giraffe to a telephone pole? I know that law exists...

And those that weren't are superseded quite nicely by newer laws anyway.
Killing a Scott in York for example, would be covered by the no murder law (Which is actually covered by the antisocial behaviour act or something daft)

yeah, it's people trying to be clever but FAILING. They don't get that just because a law hasn't been repealed doesn't mean it's still legal..

There's one attributed to Kentucky, that one is not drunk until one can't "hold on to the ground."
It's also illegal to put an ice cream cone in one's back pocket--I've heard that one's got something to do with horse stealing(either a signal to other people that it was going to happen, or something that the thieves would do to lure the horses off).

we have a pesky old one in st. louis that says more than 4 (I think its 4...might be 3) women living under one roof who are not related is considered a brothel. Thats why the colleges in StL cant have sorority houses. I still dont know why that rule is even around anymore.

and no, people dying isnt funny, christmas pie rules, however, are.
