I would like to point out that I did mention that.

And proceeded to disregard it, evidently.

It just strengthens it for those paying attention.

That'd require there to be an argument in the first place, while what you've presented is at best a collection of similarly slanted assertions. The strength of those statements is intrinsic to the statements themselves, not the nature of replies to them; I do not believe I quite qualify for the "generation before me bashing my generation" categorization either.

And the generation before that clearly had better schooling. Yeah. Okay.

I noticed a severe decline in the quality of my OWN education, from first grade to twelfth.

Unfortunately, that may just be attributed to the education system getting worse as you get to a higher stage in it, rather than the education system getting worse over time.

You are, first and foremost, what you believe yourself to be; that whole fragment is rhetoric.

That's what I keep hearing from the generation before me. The whole thing is a complaint about the fact that every generation before us complains about us and says their generation was better and I'm tired of it.

It's easy to disregard complaints that you know are untrue and unbiased - the idea of being annoyed by complaints suggests that you do not believe them to be altogether baseless.

That'd work, except that my mother, my mother's close friend, and my boyfriend's mother all work in elementary schools in this county; I'm also still in contact with a few teachers from my old high school. I've heard enough from them to believe that it's a decline in the overall quality of education.

Or that I hear them all the dang time. If you hear the same complaint, day in, day out, it starts to wear on you, regardless of its validity. Before he was replaced, I was so tired of hearing the complaints about our local college basketball coach--I don't care, at all, about basketball, but people were always holding these loud conversations about what a horrible coach he was.

Hmm makes me wonder whether anyone else here have felt similarly? From my perspective, I know that I've had and continue to have wonderful education opportunities... things that challenge me academically and physically ... I guess maybe I've just been lucky...

Hold onto your seats people... the SL is back.

Fine.
I reject the idea that my Generation is morally apprehensible when the generation that is slating us is renowned as being hedonistic drug abusers, have caused pointless war after pointless war and have been the people teaching my generation morality.

This is your fault, not ours, your bed to lie in, not ours.

In other words, I refuse to pay for the sins of my fathers any longer.

*nod* It is kind of frightening, actually, to know that most of my teachers see as many problems with the school system here as the students do. Those are just the ones they vocalize, too- the administration tends to try to discourage them from voicing their opinions to students, I think, because it reveals how many major faults there are with the education system that they so often claim to be one of the best. If our teachers do not even have faith in the system, how are the students meant to?

I realize this kind of contradicts my other post, but I thought I might point out that I can see what Moongewl is saying.

Regardless, I do not think we should be blaming each other for things.

"your" doesn't work there - I'm the only second party that makes sense in your reply, and I very much doubt you're young enough to be claiming to be from a different generation. Sorry.

Which is more or less the proper attitude; now if you could just come to that realization and not respond to further "back in our day, we had to walk uphill both ways in winter" speeches with "well, your generation is renowned as being hedonistic drug abusers, have caused pointless war after pointless war", things would be great.
I doubt anyone is holding you personally responsible for anything; most healthcare/education problems are blamed on the government, not the kids.

That I accept in good grace.
However, open a newspaper (That would, in my opinion be mistake number one in any day mind you - But my personal distrust of the news papers is irrelevant here) and it is a safe bet that my generation is blamed for something, Unruliness, being rubbish at school, teen pregnancy causing overpopulation in the Arctic circle, whatever.
It varies in intensity, but generally speaking the way we are regarded is. Well. Stupid.
It's no wonder I get uppity about it (although I do apologise).

My point (Having been lost in the storm of my high horsey'D nature) being that it's a bit rich for said generation to call mine useless and unruly.
