Um...what makes spiders "filthier" than any other animal?

No matter how many millions of people have arachnophobia, it never ceases to offend me.

You are offended of what other people think about spiders? o_O
And there was no mention of them being "filthier", just "filthy".

Insects and arachnids are my biggest passion in life, and the fear and revulsion people have for them baffles and angers me to no end. Only the tiniest fraction of them are dangerous or even capable of bothering people, and their beauty brings me near to tears every time I study the natural world. Spiders, especially, are nothing to logically fear. They're tiny, they're timid, only three species in the world have a deadly bite, and they're as gorgeously structured as a flower or a snowflake:

http://www.windependent.com/LJ/july_06/spider_fxglv.jpg
http://www.richard-seaman.com/Insects/V ... Spider.jpg
http://www.nature.org/wherewework/north ... spider.jpg

Saying that you dislike an animal because it's filthy does quite clearly imply that it's supposed to be "especially" filthy, which is a nonsensical statement to make about spiders. They carry no disease and they do not go out of their way to lurk in germ-ridden places. They only care about hunting insects (or other spiders), so the only time they might get dirty is chasing a fly into a dungheap. It doesn't mean they like dung, or naturally carry any filthiness. You can't get sick at all from eating one (it's also not true that you eat them in your sleep, before anyone brings up this popular myth. They are smart enough not to walk into a giant mouth!)

I just don't understand what makes an animal scary simply because it has a different shape. The same person who fears spiders might not fear mice, squirrels or geckos, but they all move pretty fast and are equally likely to bite if cornered or sat upon.

....But on the subject of neopets, we absolutely do need at least one more arthropod. Something inexplicably bothers me about things that only come in twos, and having only two insectoid pets - the buzz and ruki - simply will not do when we have so many reptiles, mammals, birds and at least three fish (I do recall that the Kiko is supposed to be a fish pet). I think a caterpillar-like pet would be the most fun, and have the most universal appeal. Robot could look like a little subway train, and mutant could be the butterfly version for irony's sake...although a slimy maggotlike mutant would probably be my instant favorite neopet EVER.

Barring a new "bug", I think it's shocking and outrageous that the only turtle neopet is a Redrawn Shoyru. Turtles are a basic element of the cartoon animal universe! A squid or octopus would also be awesome, and I still wish they went through with the "adult slorg" idea mentioned in an old poll. Far as mammals go, I'm very fond of moles, especially star-nosed moles, and Echidnas. We could really use something thickly covered in spines.

Sadly, with all the clothing they would feel obligated to re-code, I'm sure TNT dreads the thought of a new species anytime soon.

One thing I'd love to see are some lab-ray only species, simply because they aren't afraid to get silly when it comes to the lab. If it can zap your pet into a devilish stuffed poogle, a tasty dessert or a snot sculpture, why not a giant meepit or slorg? Retired old species like the tatsu? Maybe even some Neoquest monsters? Nobody would need them to wear clothes or even come in more than one color, really.

People have also clamored for a plant pet since the earliest days of the site. All I know is, if they do a plant, they might make Halloween a mini brain tree.

According to Wikipedia, four genera have confirmed lethal bites and three others are potentially lethal. My main issue with spiders is that when one crawls on me until I get that horrible tickling feeling and shake it off and then there's a spider flying through the air and I feel all shuddery from the aftereffects of the tickling. The other is that around here, black widows like to hang out in the exposed layers of rock that are best for finding fossils.

Back on topic(finally), what about a molting day for birds? That could be interesting, particularly for some of the faerie pets.

:O Them spider pics are beautiful. And I really think a spider pet would pwn. I mean, how about a Spyder petpet with a spider neopet? :D <3

Ooh, that'd be cool. And what about a kind of scale shedding day for fish? e.g Koi.
IDEA!
There should be a feature that allows you to cut your pets hair/mane/tail hair/feathers. Like a beauty salon, so to speak. You could adjust the length, style, layer it, make it spiky, hairgel it, dye it, everything <3

The sooner they do a new pet, the easier it will be. Because if they wait a few weeks, that is like five-ten more clothings!

True! They'll have to modify it all...

That or they could give the spyder a krawk-like treatment. I know Krawks are supposed to be unique, but I still think at least two more species should be generated from petpets. Niptor would no doubt be a popular one...a crabula neopet would be cool as well (we need more grumpy, strange and less cute species)

I was at jellyneo and I saw there is a new game called smug bug smite.

Image

I like the bugs. I think they are the bug brothers that always jump up and steal your NP or say "I'm going to get your neopet's food when you aren't looking."

Well, anyway, TNT never specified what these bugs were. I guess they are a petpetpet.

I kind of like them. They aren't all sappily goody goody all day long.

I know the story! I was there!

When Mystery Island (the very first world) was released, they had a poll for what the new species would be. The options were a tiger cub, a hyena, a coconut man, and this:

Image

...Which I naturally wanted more than anything, but came in last place by a wide margin. I don't need to tell anyone what won the poll.

The coconut people enjoyed presence as non-neopet characters until their transformation into Jubjubs, the bug became the "bug brothers" event, and the Hyena was simply forgotten.

Those bugs look quite different, but they do have similar proportions.

The giant blades of grass are a good giveaway that they're probably a petpetpet, although, there are other games with bugs in them that aren't petpets or petpetpets.

I have severe Arachnophobia and didn't really know why until not too long ago. I can understand how they can be seen as beautiful. But I figured out that I'm afraid of spiders because of the way they move. I honestly can't stand to look at them, as it creeps me out. Other animals, like crabs, that move in a similar way also scare me, but not nearly as much as spiders do. Probably because spiders are tiny and move so very fast.
The word "phobia" means irrational fear, so yeah, spiders aren't really something to logically fear. -shrug-

Anyway. Cartoon spiders don't scare me, and I did rather like the spider pet TNT had for April Fool's Day in 2005.

I definitely wish they had more scary/mean-looking pets. :/
I also love the octopus/squid idea.

A morphing pet! 'Scuse my un-flash-like animations, I had to make do with MSgif_animator, which I can't work. *wats to find flash disks* When I find them I could do a really cool morph effect... *daydream*

Hear hear!
I agree on everything... I'm creeped out by anything that can move like it does... "scuttling" might be the word I'm looking for?
It's entirely irrational, I couldn't explain it if I tried. And I have.

But yeah, the "nikondrak" was pretty cool looking... and we DO need for scary/mean pets. Even the ones that are supposed to be scary/mean are being cute-ified.

Ohhh, I'd get one of those so I could paint it faerie or pink! Or maybe royal...

What is logical to fear?

I'm scared of some of the weirdest things. Like Friday the 13.

Fear itself. Or mutant zombie giraffes eating the roof off your house.
Actually, a mutant zombie giraffe would be an interesting Neopet. Would you paint it mutant and then zombie? Or zombie and then mutant? What if it could be mutant with the zombie skin over it?
