I have this problem too. There are some games I like in the center, and some up in the corner.
I dunno, I have premium and a kickin adblocker, so this doesn't necessarily affect me too much, but I feel for you guys. The fact is that whenever an internet company is bought from its original creators, it will soon be filled with ads and all old users will soon be completely alienated (live journal, myspace, neopets, ect). This is just a fact of the internet.

That depends on your computer and graphics card. Our one computer, which is from the end of 2004 handles it ok (ish), but our other computer is rather old and is usually the only one I can get on whenever I want. It handles ads like crap. Especially the moving ones. Just another stupid oversight, that's all I'm saying.
Besides, they're distracting... Does anyone know of any decent ie compatable css to at least hide them? (I can take the loading lag, but hiding them ought to take care of the graphic card issues, don't you think?)

Yeah...the placement of those ads looks distracting. Not down with that. However, I don't really mind that it isn't a pop-up anymore...

Hm. Mine is still a popup, and while there the high scores are now there, I have no ads because of Adblock. If ever there were a reason to download Firefox, this would be it

I only tried two different games one was a pop up one wasnt... either way i brought this to TNT's attention with a 'comment' email. I would suggest anyone who doesnt like the changes to make there opinions known via the 'contact us' at the bottom of any neopets page.

At first, I didn't think it was that bad. But I just played Hungry Skeith in-window for half an hour (world challenge), and the game was glitching pretty badly -- I'd have finally gotten the stinkin' avatar if it would have just picked up the stupid green jelly when I pressed the space bar. I do like the fact that I can't accidentally click out of the window now.

You can get any game to come back up in a pop up window if you don't play it on a larger size....
It still has the high score thingy, but at least it's set up right size-wise, etc, so that you don't lose part of the screen.

My real question here is does TNT have NO usability trained staff members?
It boggles my mind how they keep re-arranging aspects of the site to make them harder to use and hard to display on many computers.

Having the game in the same window is very annoying. Some games still have their own window but for those that don't, it causes a few problems for me:
1. I prefer games in the middle top of my screen - to do that now I have to resize my window and as I use Tabs, the whole lot is resized, meaning everytime I take a break from a game, I have to resize my window again.
2. When playing in the WC, I like to keep the window open on the score page, so I can see how many games I need to play to keep in with a chance of winning (some WC's move very quickly, so it is vital to know how the score table is running), as the games play in the same window, I now have to open a 2nd window on the WC challenges (defeats the purpose of the WC link on the games page).
3. The game sizes have now been corrupted - the normal size is too big, it cuts off the restart/send score buttons. Large size cuts off the game play. Small is almost ridiculous to play with on most games.
4. The headings over the top of the game is just annoying, it pushes the game further down the page making it more awkward to play certain games that require a lot of time at the bottom of the window. I do not need to see who has the top scores - it is something I check before playing the game, if my memory is so bad that I cannot remember, then I write it down. We do not need extra information, especially information that serves no purpose. I play the game for my reasons, not just to try and get a high score.
5. Overall usability is worse for this revamp. Instead of making this part of the site easier or at least upgraded to a new level, the games as they are, are virtually unplayable.
I am ok with change - it is necessary for growth but change must be better otherwise it might as well stay as it was before.

At first I thought that it was just me that this was happening to. I have a new computer, and I thought that something crazy was happening.
I don't mind games in the same window. I'm not a serious gamer, so my playing hasn't really been affected. I do agree that the high scores at the top is pretty stupid, though.

If I were going to put something at the top, I'd put something useful like the NP ratio. As it is, I have to scroll down to see it on the first page -- since there is a cap, I don't like to waste my time playing past the 1k NP mark.

It seems if you pick large size, you get a seperate window, some regular size games have a seperate window but all small size settings and some regular get the same window.
You do not get the highscores/Total games played in the larger settings.

I ...never really noticed the adverts until I read this just now.
Must be going blind(er).
Though I was actually pleased to find out that the games are no longer going to be playable in separate windows. It might have something to do with the fact, that I always have a ton of windows open at the same time, so the extra game window would almost always mean extra trouble, hassle and freezage.
