Harsh new CSS filters

#1 Post by Meer »

TNT has added some wonderful new filters. (note the sarcasm ¬.¬)
Now you can't use the following in CSS:
- Display
- Margin
- Visabilty
- Opacity
- Position

These properties are vital for many userlookups, petlookups, petpages, and guild layouts. We are now severely limited in what we can put on our pages. No more fancy cool layouts.

I worked very hard on my lookups and petpages. Now I can't update them ever again. If I do I'll have to start all over from scratch and make much simpler pages. I'm very upset about this. :x

I understand that TNT has good intentions with these new filters (I will explain later in my post), but they are kind of strict...

The reason they put these new filters into effect was to stop the shop scams that are occurring quite often now. A user would create a board saying that have UBs in their shop, but the items are really Piles of Dung covered with an image of a really expensive item (Bag of Peanuts or Baby Paint Brush, usually) using CSS.

TNT disabled these CSS things so this scam will not work any more

Aww, man. I was hoping it was a glitch that would go away next time they update the site. Guess I'll have to get started a lil sooner on my new page layout.

Wow, that is harsh, and would gut my userlookup if I wanted to change it.

Can you change your password without it registering the instances of the filtered words?

This reallyreallyreallyreallyreallyreallyreallyreally really makes me mad, because this ruins every page I've ever made.

If this really has to do with the shops, I think they just just make it so shops can't have style tags. Not affect everything else. D: People don't even need layouts in their shops, and it's not like it'd kill any prexisting contests.

No matter how much they change their filter, someone is going to find a away to get around it to scam people.

Wow... that's just... wow. I realize some of us like simple layouts, but those filters are going to make layouts REALLY simple. Nice to know they changed the layout to make it easier for us to make lookups and then completely destroy their efforts and ours.

I haven't touched a layout on Neo in ages, is there a way to use HTML or other CSS coding to make up for the new filter?

That scam has nothing to do with userlookups or petpages :(. They should limit the changes to shops and leave the rest alone. I cant stand layouts in shops anyway and I wouldnt mind making them customizable with text and links only. I came to buy, not visit an overpriced friends shop, look at glittery faeries or see 12 quizzes on what petpet you are. All the junk makes me not even want to buy.

I agree with that entire post. The only graphics in a shop should be a mall banner (if applicable) and the shopkeeper. It hurts my eyes to go to a shop with a bunch of "wut pant brush r u?" quizzes on it or one that has lots of glittery stuff. TNT should also ban all music in shops if they haven't already

Argh.

I wonder what motivated TNT to scrap all those tags across the board rather than in just shops, anyways. I actually wouldn't mind nearly all style tags being disallowed in shop descriptions...I can't tell you how many times I've missed a good deal because the shop took too long to load completely!

Oh I so agree with you both. I have actually closed shops and gone to someone else simply because I was annoyed. Its a shame they had to apply the restrictions everywhere though.

I agree 100% that the SHOULD have just disabled the stuff on shop layouts. Who cares about shop layouts anyway?

But lookups and petpages were a huge outlet for my creativity. I think I can salvage my petpages but my lookups are trashed. If I could I would never ever touch my lookups again. But there are things on my main account's lookup that needs to be updated periodically (like my list of goals, all my pets on side accounts, etc) So I have to scrap it.

And I was RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of making a really pwnsom lookup for one of my side accounts. I mean it was going to look really sweet. Now I'll never be able to use it.

And when I move some of my pets around to different accounts, they are going to lose their pretty lookups with custom graphics that I spent HOURS on.

I cannot express how frustrated this makes me feel. At least, I can't on a family friendly site such as this.
@#%!#^%&!@@#%$#^#$!#%%$U&&^(&*&%%#$@#!!!!!!!!! :x :x :x
Use your imagination.

I'd write countless queries to the editorial and start a petition, if I had any delusions that it would work.

I have a Layout on one of my Petpages and it probably is affected by these new Rules. Sigh. I don't have the heart to check it.

I wish they would make it an Option - like with the NeoBoards and Glowing Fonts I believe - where you could turn off Shop Layouts (available to everyone so that it wouldn't skew things to Premium I suppose). That way people with Dial-Up and the suchlike wouldn't be waiting for ever for pages to load and paranoid people (like myself :P) wouldn't get so worried about being Cookie Grabbed or something while visiting a Shop they didn't trust. People would eventually find ways around it... but it would be worth a try... right? Meh. When I first started on Neo I had a really obnoxious Shop Layout that wouldn't even load on my own Computer half of the time. XD;; I just have a Neo Blog in it now I think... but it would be hardly a loss to the world if it was blocked by such an option or anything. Meh.

I dunno. I think its a waste of a creative outlet... I had a fancy User Lookup Layout once but when the Site's Layout changed I didn't see the point in making a new one. I feel sorry for anyone who had really spiffy ones, sigh. -scratches head-
