Ow. That freaking does it. I'm sticking with Slushie Slinger until I can get some feeling back in my mouse hand. All that work, and for what? Four measly points a game, at best.

Unless I find out that 668 is a horrid SS score. Then I don't know what I'll do. Just keep playing out of spite, I guess.

I'm sorry, I really don't mean to be ungrateful to the people who've tried to help me so far - I know I don't sound like it, but I do appreciate it - but nothing is helping me improve and I'm frustrated. I've tried every field orientation and team set up, I suck at all of them. I've tried music, I've tried two different mice to see if maybe they'd "feel" better with the game - nuh-uh. I still can't aim properly and lose the ball frequently. By the time I think I have the hang of it, the game's over, and whatever I "learned" in the last game doesn't seem to want to carry over to the next. The last game I played, it took me almost the entire 3 minutes to score one goal. ONE. Two minutes and fifty-eight seconds to score ONE point! I don't care who you are, that's pathetic. There are probably some two year olds out there doing better than I am. I hope they're on my team =p

I know, I know, it's only the first day. Sorry again, but no one else I know plays Neopets on a regular basis and I need to vent someplace. I'll try not to whine about this any more, because that doesn't help either.

EDIT: Scratch that, apparently it does. o_O I tried again and got a 5-0 score. Umm...yay? Progress?

I spent most of last year getting scores like that. People who are notching up 10+ goals per game as a rule learned how to play last year. I only played about 450 games last year, but even that obviously gives me a bit of a head start! And I've still spent entire games chasing one snow yooyu round the pitch in spite of all that practice.

As long as you're winning the game, you're notching up prize points.

Firefox 3 definitely speeds the game up for me. I find it very off-putting, so I'm switching to playing in IE. Also it doesn't support the NP toolbar!

I wonder if team formations are going to have a significant effect on results? Last year's top four teams are all 2+2, which I think is so much easier to play against. Could shake things up a bit!

You might be on to something there. I was playing Faerieland until midnight NST (3 AM here- I am not a Yooyuball addict at all), and then switched to Tyrannia. Faerieland plays 2+2, Tyrannia plays 3+1. It's much, much harder to play Tyrannia than it was playing Faerieland, because there isn't that central space where you can dive towards the goal, and the defender is in the center, so it's harder to get a clear shot.

I'm finding Darigan a lot harder to play than Roo, even though they're both 2+2. The Darigan goalie is huge!

I'm quite disappointed that Shenkuu lost all three games.

Incidentally, for those wondering about the avatar, according to Jellyneo it's equivalent to:
[*] 50 Games (Wins) of Yooyuball
[*] 100 Games (Draws) of Yooyuball
[*] 200 Games of Slushie Slinger
[*] 334 Games of Make Some Noise

Also, if the game is a bit laggy (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), a quick refresh usually does the trick. good luck everyone.

Where did you get that from?
I have JellyNeo saying
    * 50 Games (Wins) of Yooyuball
    * 100 Games (Draws) of Yooyuball
    * 167 Games of Slushie Slinger (Min TBD Pts)
    * 758 Games of Make Some Noise (Min TBD Pts)

I like your answers better though

Hey all. Came on to check stocks after a couple months inactivity and look what i find xD Missed the last two cups, so this is my first. Went Darigan since my main pet is a Darigan Lupe, doing pretty good with YYB, can manage 9-0s pretty easy now, only conceded 1 goal in 20 games, and have scored 160 :P

Currently planning to play 10 YYB games, plus a couple MSN (i get 7kish) and SS (played 1 managed about 300 pts before getting bored) games each day. Wondering how you think that will sit me with regards to prizes? Are prizes based on individual efforts, or just whether your team wins? Will I do better if I just focus on YYB, or spread across SS and MSN as well? Sorry for all the questions :P Better get back to revising for a bit I spose :(

So, uh, here's my unsolicited opinion on many things AC. ^.^;

1) What works really can be different for everyone. For instance, I've seen that a lot of people who are right-handed find going right to left easier, but that's not my case for several reasons. First, I have a trackball instead of a mouse, so it's easier for me to make motions from left to right, because my thumb is what determines my capability, instead of my arm. It's just easier to pull your thumb in towards your hand and maintain control.

Second, even though I'm right-handed, my left eye seems to be dominant, so it's actually easier to pick out the players on my team if they're closer to my left side. My brain also processes that region more easily, for whatever reason, so it keeps better track of which of my players have been pushed out of position over there, too.

All that babble really means is that, even with the wonderful advice from other participants, you could try out other settings than they suggest, and it could actually work better for you. ^.^;

2) Now to the useful part of my post - talking about SS and MSN. I definitely agree that these games can be super boring when a person just sits down and determinedly plays them. For people who can't play YYB for whatever reason, a couple things might help you be less frustrated by these games. During SS, it really is helpful to have music to listen to or something, especially during the early parts where you just have to wait for customers to appear. It actually gets easier to keep from being bored once you get deep into the 400s, though. But the most helpful for me is to actually have both games open in their tabs and alternate between them. I'll play two or three games of MSN and then switch over to SS to give my fingers (and keyboard ^.^; ) a rest from the mashing. It definitely helps keep you from feeling like MSN is trying to make your hand fall off. ^.~

If you can play YYB, you can use all of the games as breaks from each other. After five or ten games of YYB, my brain gets tired of tracking people across the field, so I find it nice to break over to MSN for a few games. When I'm done, it's easier to focus on YYB again. SS can also be a nice break, once you're familiar enough with it to basically stare into space and register mainly in your peripheral vision the colors of the drinks wanted and where the customers are. Plus, it really helps a person's zombie impression, especially during the early, boring section. XD

@B55B55 that's what it said the first time, but I guess they recalculated as more people play (and they get a better idea on the real scoring)

:( that Shenkuu lost the first round, but not that surprised- I think the hardest games (for Shenkuu) will be against Roo and Darigan.

For people getting frustrated, step back, get a break, take a deep breath- and get some sleep. You learn better and improve after a good night's rest (your brain gets to process the new 'skill' uninterrupted). I couldn't score for the last two years (AC1 &2).

edit: is it just me or is SS the most boring game? I guess I just don't like it. Oh well, back to YYB and MSN- it's funny when the crazy techo fanatic is at his eponymous best.

edit #2: scored my first 9-0 :D :D

Tell me about it--it was a sore (almost literally) disappointment after posting a hundred YYB wins for Shenkuu (and much smaller numbers for the other two games).

I´m looking forward to the Krawk vs. Shenkuu game. It will be quite close...

Yikes, we be playing against Mystery Island today. No time for whining! :peace: (Yep, feeling better. Think I just needed sleep. And darnit, I should know better than to post when I'm cranky.) The Krawk vs. Shenkuu match does look like it'll be an interesting one, too.

Now, there IS something kind of odd that I've noticed, and I'm not sure if it's a glitch or what...but on my stats page, it's got a number of goals scored for KI's goalkeeper. In fact, "my" goalkeeper's scored more points than my right defender, who's actually out on the field! :o So I'm wondering, do they count it as a point for the goalie if he/she sucessfully defends their goal, or what?

O.o

A hundred? Wouldn't that be nearly 4 and a half hours of game-play (assuming that you "space bar"ed the scenes)?

Doubt that, the instructions say otherwise....though I wonder if TNT'll make a 'top goalies' ranking

Probably so. I played while watching a bunch of episodes of Bleach in another window.

Those aren't "points", they're "saves". It tracks the number of times your goalie has blocked a shot. Maybe they're going to do Most Valuable Player-type things with the individual player stats at the end, and will use that to rank goalies. (It seems a bit odd to me, since it depends on the rest of the team not maintaining ball control for the goalie to have a chance to accumulate saves, but whatever.)

Hey guys!
Been a while since I was last active here ^^;
Just wanted to post some advice-
One of the fastest characters this year is the Hissi on Darigan Citadel. If your team loses or you do not have a team yet, I highly suggest that you take advantage of this character! (Yes, this year they gave them all different speeds) You can tell he is fast by the way he slithers quickly past the other players. Seriously! Also, Darigan probably has the highest chance of winning this year IMO.

My old siggy expired.
I need a good siggy :(

Yay, just got my first 14-0. :) Aiming for 15-0 now! It makes it more exciting having something to strive for. Though please note, I have been playing YYB since the Cup began, and have been able to get used to the new version pretty fast. I didn't like it at first, do now (although I only seem to be able to score from the north).

I love how we can now spacebar through the cutscenes after each goal, and each one takes 8 seconds off the clock, making it a LOT quicker to rack up wins once you have mastered the game.

Lilo leads the field as best scorer, yay! (He's been my favourite AC character since year 1.) It looks like the top scorers table is updated in real time, as opposed to the other rankings which are only updated daily. If it's useful as a predictor of how whole teams are performing, it's looking good for MI and Maraqua as outsiders :)
