Click, clack, click. The sound of the Elf's staff hitting the stone road slightly echoed. Above her, a Red-Tailed Hawk screeched, and the Elf turned slightly to the left, avoiding a root.
The Hawk screeched again, telling the Elf there was a bridge ahead. Nodding, and now feeling it with her staff, the Elf stepped on. Then she stopped, holding up her arm. The Hawk swooped down, and almost landed, but stopped, screeching in dissent. "What is it, Screal?"
I am Rhe.
A picture formed in the Elf's mind of the Elemental. "Yes."
Now tell me who you are.
The Elf paused, as if unsure, but then said, "Kithe Kiare."
My master has told me of you. You may pass, but you must leave your companion behind.
"I respect your decision. However, I request he stay with me. I am blind, and without Screal, I cannot see." Kithe said, bowing lightly.
Now it was Rhe's turn to pause. No. I am sorry. I see you have a staff; you can find your way with it. He must stay, with the other.
"Other?" Kithe asked, then Screal sent a picture of Rosepetal. "Ah."
"I am sorry Screal, but I must respect the Elementals request. This is a good time for you to hunt. Good luck!" Kithe said, then motioned her hand quickly to the air. "Stay near, but do not follow."
Then she continued. Though she could not see the elegance of Nondra, she could hear and smell it like no other.
