My sister's best friend and her family simply packed up the car and drove to the other side of Florida a few days ago. Don't know if the pandemonium will be of any lesser there, but at least they'll be safer. To anyone in Florida, good luck to you and please do take cover.

Thanks to everyone who said good luck to my uncle. I think it helped, seeing as the hurricane didn't enter the Tampa area as predicted.

Kristina, where in Florida are you that it's sunny? O_o

That's just perfect! You know why? Because I'm on vacation. At where? South Florida! And the hurricane is going where? South Florida!

Yippe! Death Awaits Me! :peace:
PS. It's Friday the 13th. That's even more perfect!

Ergh...we don't have hurricanes down here - California - but my best friend lives in North Carolina and he said it was heading their way really powerfully, so I'm all afraid. .-.

Meh.. the hurricane isn't that big.. but it's still scary nonetheless. It's only going to hit the coast here in SC.. well... mainly just the coast. I doubt we'll see anything other than some rain in Columbia *shrugs*

Yeah, good luck to everyone on the east coast, from Florida up to the Canadian Maritimes. Both Tropical Storm Bonnie (I think that's the name) and Hurricane Charley'll hit, following each other closely, too.

Have fun looking out your windows, though! :D

Actually, Bonnie has already hit the panhandle of Florida and is moving north. Charley is right on Cuba. I've been lucky to have never experienced a tropical storm/hurricane in Corpus Christi, but I have felt the effects of Tropical Storm Allison that hit Houston.

O_O I live in a town about 30ish miles from Houston, Allison wasn't fun :( My dad had to leave at 2 AM to go get a whole hospital back up and running, poor him.

Anyway, Good luck with Charlie and all that rain/lost stuff. I'm surprised none have hit any sooner then now, but the season has seemed to get off to a late start, with a bunch following up. Good luck Florida peoples(and surrounding states)!

This is becoming one active hurricane season. Tropical Storm Danielle recently formed, along with another tropical depression.

To those of you thinking that you heard these names used before: Yes, they were used five years ago. All names get repeated every five years unless there was a major hurricane that did a lot of damage (for example: we won't have another Hurricane Andrew).

Isn't that big? Man, if a catagory 4 hurricane with 145 mph winds isn't that big, I'd hate to see big. Hurricane Andrew 10 years ago was just one catagory higher than Charlie is and it caused over 10 billion dollars in damage.

On a much worse note, three people have died due to hurricane related incidents thus far (more). On the note of that article, the fact that the storm would be a catagory 4 before it got to land fall was not "unknown," apparently this guy just didn't pay any attention. Also, as much as I'm glad that we in the tampa bay area avoided the hurricane, it might have been better off coming here in general because we were expecting it for a while and actively getting people as far in land as possible, where as down where it hit they didn't really have as much advance warning as we did. Another bad thing about this near-miss is that there hasn't been a severe hurricane in the tampa bay area for a very long time, so even this time people took the warnings with very little interest and it will only get worse as time goes on, which means when it's really dire that we prepare, everyone's going to be treating it just like "all the others" as they did this time and the many many times before. Ah well, I guess it's some crude form of natural selection :-P

PS With all this talk about Florida, I thought I'd share this:

You Know You're From Florida When...
-You own at least five pairs of flip flops
-You know someone who's been struck by lightning
-You're more scared of the freaks who live down the street than gators
-Your backyard is sometimes a swamp
-You're officially sick of Disney
-You shrug off hurricane warnings
-You've been permanently blinded by fat men in speedos
-There are only two seasons - hot and hotter
-You've drank a flaming alligator.
-You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from Florida. :)

Oh what joy! Hurricane Alex disappeared and then a Tropical Storm and a Hurricane all appear at once! Well, my mums friends in Florida at the moment, but I think she'll be about 200ft up in the sky by now. And this is affecting us Brits too! Hurricane Alex, when it was done, it's winds and heat and pressure went accross the atlantic and hit Britain. Because of it Scotland is having Monsoons and Tropical weather! And I'm not joking! There are mud slides here! We have been flodded in quite a few places right accross the country. And now we're being told that when Bonnie and Charley disappear they are headed for Britain as well! Oh what fun! The Americans of the forum are getting blown away and the Brits are going to Drown!

And we Fins will just be watching tv and drinking too much beer, like always. Actually, we could drown as well. And the Norwegian people! And the Swedish
people! All the nordic countries... Maybe I'll just climb a mountain in Norway and watch everything being drown. Nah...

Good luck to all those who may be affected.

Meanwhile in Asia there ranges the usual tropical cyclones, or typhoons. The most recent one killed 16 people when I checked this morning; I'm not sure what the situation is now. I believe there's actually two, but I could be wrong.
