The sumer olympics are so boring, the winter olympics in my opinion are more interesting, but the lighting of the torch was pretty cool though, I wonder what they keep insid it to keep that torch flaming :P

Wow. All I can say is that is the best opening ceremony I've seen. It was breathtaking and artistically well thought out and executed. Good job Greece!

Yeah, especially since they did all of it in the last minute. :P

I thought the water at the center of the stadium was pretty cool. My brother and I were arguing about what it was.

"Ice?"
"Nah, too warm. Probably glass."
"Glass in a stadium?! That's a silly idea."

..and so on. We were both surprised to hear it was water, party because we've never seen that much water that still before.

Australia is a continent anyway :)

I meant the whole thing couldn't be considered one. Though Australia is a continent it's not like New Zealand and the other islands are joined with it.

Even though them Aussies would love us under their evil imperialistc thumb :P

I'd call it a 'Region'.

I'm more impressed than ever. :)

I love the way they used the pool, with the different lighting. I can't get over how beautiful that ceremony was.

Oh yeah... one thing that did disappoint me with the whole opening ceremony was the Bjork performance.
Well.. the actual performance thing with the dress spreading across the field was cool.. but HER was BAD.
I mean come on... she could've at least did the song live instead of horribly lipsinging it! UGH I wanted to cringe every time it showed her upclose and her lips were going all out of sync to the song. :x

Woah, I never knew there where -that- many countries in the world.

But Tiesto was making all the awful sounds during the ceremony. He's Dutch, so it's all cool. 8)

I loved the dress part. That thing was HUGE! I would've liked to hear her sing though, but I couldn't because Bob Costas and that lady ( I can't believe her name is slipping my mind at the moment, I know who she is! gah!) kept talking.

I know! All of the reporters at NBC were like, "Hey, look at her dress!" "WOAH!" And they wouldn't shut up. -.- But the dress was my favorite part, aside from the runners with the glowsticks. That was cool too.

I missed the opening ceremony (didn't want to wake at one in the morning and stay awake till five), although I watched the highlights. I missed the whole parade of nations recap, except for the last few.

I loved the fireworks display. I haven't seen any fireworks in a long while and the last show I did see in HK wasn't that good, so this was really quite lovely. :D

You have good taste. ;)

Oh, and I forgot. My uncle was with the United States people, he is their psychologist. There's an article about him somewhere, but here's a tidbit:

Sean McCann has spent months helping the athletes prepare their minds for the Olympic games. He's one of ten sports psychologists who'll accompany Team USA to Athens, "We like to say we're part of the team around the team."

I've seen him on TV before, it was pretty cool. ^_^ He knows all of these great athletes, but my Aunt is worried about terrorism. She's afraid he'll get hurt.

Oh yeah! At some points, it looked like a bunch of runners were coming out of no where!

"Wait, there's three now."
"No...more than that. Where'd THEY come from?"
"Ten?"
"Looks like 20, now..."

And Bjork's lipsyncing WAS horrid. I giggled whenever they did a closeup on her, because she was so...off.

At first, I didn't get that they were representing every Olympic game with those ribbons the runner was running through, and I thought he fell down on accident. Then listening to the announcer, I got the symbolism.

Oh, and out of curiousity, has anyone here ever been to an Olympic game/ceremony?

The closest thing I've gotten to any olympic event is my neighbor. He competed in the games in the 50's (don't remember which one) and he got to carry the torch as it passed through Ohio when the olympics were in Atlanta. Got to see him carry it, it was cool :)
