I can speak it pretty well, what with my being in the extended french program, which is basically just one year faster than normal french. and in any language you only need to learn to say three things: what is that?, how much does it cost?, and Please don't kill me

I took 11 years of it, and I still don't know what des means.

Of? o_O

As in ...maison des (insert random word here), would mean house of (inserted word)?

I don't think I'm right, but just wanted to check anyway.
Just to be completely sure I don't know a thing. :P

You're right...you thing about house of /maison des is right!
Des is a word we use like <<the>> in english...

It can also mean 'some' (followed by a plural noun):

Des portes - Some doors
Des Cochons - Some pigs.

I know like four words... Bonjour, amour, le, and blanc!
Don't plan on learning anymore though.

I live in Canada so I have to learn French. I'm planning to take it at least to Grade 10 though, and maybe Grade 11 or Grade 12 (I'm going to Gr 10 after summer)

A trimester (around 3 months) worth! The teacher was awful, but I still learned quite a bit and have of course forgot almost everything over the summer  .

I can speak French reasonably well, but I get things wrong and don't know everything yet, as I have not finished my French course yet. But I can certainly have a conversation. :P

I've been learning it for six years, so... yeah.

I can converse somewhat, having studied it for 5 years.

I learnt some with a private tutor back when I was 8 or 9 ... and then I forgot all of it, and I've taken a year of French at school from the beginning again ... no interest. I want to take Japanese X.x

Took two years of French in high school and barely remember the language... however sometimes I will hear some French and automatically know what was said so I guess my memory kicks in once in a while.

I would like to study it someday, but right now I don't think I could handle studying three languages.

Nope- I'm taking Spanish because I think it will be more important in the future.

Unless you want to live in France. XD
