You can not create rules in the sports world that are case specific. Your entire argument is that, "Yes, SOME girls can do it...", but the point is you can NOT base the rules on the actions of a few. It's just not the way things are done.

For example, yes, there are certain people that are responsible enough to carry automatic weapons in airports. Does that mean you should let every Jack, Tom, and Harry do it? No, it doesn't.

Thank you so, so much for saying this. I know what I'm getting into and so does my friend. Anyone scared for our safety is misplacing their fear. The boys could get hurt too. Some of the boys are up against people who are in their weight class but could snap them in half because they are stronger, but that doesn't mean that they do get snapped in half. What people don't realize is that wrestling is not a dangerous sport. My brother has gotten more seriously injured in soccer than wrestling, and he has been wrestling for five years. The only real way to really get hurt is if your opponent severely breaks the rules. (And I mean severely, you're not allowed to rip people's arms off or anything.)

It's like saying to one of the weaker boys "Nope, sorry, you can't wrestle him, he looks way too strong for you." That doesn't happen! They wrestle whether or not it looks like they can win. They wrestle knowing that they might get hurt. Wrestling is no more dangerous for girls than it is for boys.

Girls CAN wrestle boys, BUT regardless of having them in equal weight classes and skill classes, boys still have more upper arm strength and a higher centre of gravity than girls, so they have an edge in this specific sport.

Girls shouldn't be barred from sparring with the boys, practicing and waht not, but for competitions, it's just more fair to have girls wrestling with girls because they wont be penalized because the boys have an advantage of where their strength and balance is distributed. Albeit, that advantage doesn't always win matches, but it can.

(Speaking from a girl who wrestled in high school for a bit, there are ALWAYS girls who want to compete.)

I DON'T agree however, that a girl is more likely to get hurt wrestling boys, that's just ridiculous. There's just as much chance of anybody getting hurt. I guess I just look at this best from a competitive standpoint, where I want the most equal competitor I can get.

All right, all right, but are boys emotionally ready to wrestle girls? That was the question here and most of you have not even addressed it, rather choosing to debate pointlessly about female rights and male strength vs female strength.

(Though on that issue I do agree that in terms of physical strength, females lose to males in general. It's nothing to do with being sexist.)

This topic makes me laugh, so I'm not going to address all of the fallacies that his topic holds, though many of them are true.

Anyway, since most people aren't even addressing the original question, NO I don't think boys are emotionally ready to wrestle girls at that age. Because most of the reasons already mentioned. I suppose I can't really post reason why otherwise I'd be labeled a "sexist pig" and go cry in a corner. Seriously, you can't argue fact no matter how hard you try.[/u]

Um, whether or not boys are emotionally ready to wreslte girls is not really fact. For those who are not boys or are not 12-15, it's opinion. For those who are 12-15 year old boys, it may be just you.

I would also like to say that if I am not allowed to wrestle boys, I won't be able to wrestle anyone. Half the schools we compete against are all boys schools, and the rest don't have girls on their wrestling teams.

And I would like to hear what Kugetsu has to say on why boys are not emotionally ready to wrestle girls at this age, because I can't think of a reason that you get you labeled sexist. It's that talk of boys being stronger than girls that people are calling sexist, and that has nothing to do with how ready boys are to wrestle girls.

And one last thing; I have asked several of the boys on the wrestling team whether they think that they are emotionally ready to wrestle girls and they said yes, they didn't care whether it was a boy or a girl, it's just a wrestling match.

That's exactly why I didn't type everything I thought. I AGREE with the what Igg has said, and for some reason that has labeled her as "sexist" (only god knows why). Why can't people accept a fact of science that males are built differently than females? All you have to do is look at a male and female skeleton to easily see the difference. Unless of course science is biased against women. -_- (Also, this is not to any specific person, but to the overall topic.)

Also, I don't know any guys that would say "I'm emotionally unable to wrestle a girl."

That's all I really have to say on this topic.

I think I voiced my opinion earlier in the thread on that account.
In high school, I never had a problem with the boys on our wrestling team.

BUT any earlier than 15 and I think there would've been a problem. Suffering from unwanted arousal can be a big thing for boys at that age, combined with close physical exertion with a girl could be a big problem.

I didn't say it was.

And thank you, Istanbullfrog, you are possibly the only person who has actually answered the question at hand, and I do not think you sexist. I do not disagree with you. You have given a perfectly good reason which I think is legitimate. Thank you. But what I can't see is how that is more of an issue in middle school than in high school.

Woah, woah, woah! What is this about greater brain mass? It just means that you have a larger brain, not that you're smarter! Whales have enormous brains, but are they running countries? Do you realize that it was this kind of thing that the president of Harvard got in so much trouble for saying?

And for the last time, this is not a debate about sexism! This is about whether boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 15 are ready to wrestle each other! Why have only one or two people actually answered that question? I don't care who believes that girls would get hurt, I don't care who believes that boys are stronger than girls, I'm sorry, but right now I just don't care about that! I'm asking whether you think the psychological make up of boys and girls will allow them to be able to wrestle each other, not their physical make up!

I'm sorry for losing it there, but the things everyone is talking about are not what I'm asking about. Imagine asking a doctor whether you're dad is going to live, and he tells you that you should eat more vegetables.

I think a male could explain this better than I, BUT from what knowledge my boyfriend is imparting through me on this matter, you have less control over arousal in middle school than high school. By high school most boys have developed control over when it is/isn't alright to be aroused by situations. Taken from his words, somebody else explain this better!
