Does anyone know what kind of Petpet is in today's (12/22) animation? It's cute.

I love that the diorama is candy. It's so cute!

Wha? Are these weak attempts at Hanukkah items?

"Oh, better far to live and die/Under the brave black flag I fly/Than play a sanctimonious part/With a pirate head and a pirate heart."
Re: Advent Calendar 2008 [split #1]
Why yes, I do believe they are. What, no gelt or latkes? Latkes are tasty.Mongrel wrote:Wha? Are these weak attempts at Hanukkah items?
On the one hand, I appreciate the attempt to be inclusive, but it feels a little cheap to call it a Seasonal Candelabra rather than a menorah and a top rather than a dreidel.
Re: Advent Calendar 2008 [split #1]
I've noticed a lot of use of the word "Holiday" in place of Christmas on Neopets lately, but this takes the cake in terms of attempting to be politically correct. I can sort of understand this a little in the light of their "no religious discussion" policy, but really-- who on earth would get offended at the use of the word "menorah", and why, then, would they be sharing a website with millions of other players worldwide?

What makes "dreidel" and "menorah" so offensive? It's strange to me that there are at least 3 "Christmas Trees" on Neopets, and even more stockings, angel-related items, etc., but they're afraid to use the word "menorah". I get that some of the aforementioned items are less specific to a religion or recognized as relatively secular symbols of the season, but still.

I don't understand why not use "menorah" either. I was going to say that it could be a recent thing to add the PC. However, several of the items in this year's AC are "Christmas" items: Christmas Pile of Soot, Pocket Christmas Tree Keyring & Elegant Christmas Tree to name three.Mongrel wrote:What makes "dreidel" and "menorah" so offensive? However, the timing is correct as I believe that Hanukkah started at sundown last night, so today would be the first full day of Hanukkah making the release of the menorah and dreidel appropriate.

Oh no, not another discussion about seasonal/holiday political correctness. I still haven't caught my breath from last year's.

The timing of the items was pretty poor actually. Hanukkah started at sundown on Sunday. The items are now a good two days late. And I'm super upset about the menorah being called a candelabra... That really, really infuriates me (and I'm not even Jewish).
What was with the sound for today's animation too? Did my speakers cut out or did the sound only last for like 20 seconds?

May - Thanks for the clarification. My mistake. The calendar I have says Monday is Hanukkah, so I figured it started sundown on Monday.May wrote:The timing of the items was pretty poor actually. Might be your speakers. I turned mine on (usually off so I wouldn't have noticed this morning) and reloaded the animation in a background tab. It is not stopping at all. I can hear the geb dreidel spinning around and around. And when the geb dreidel's tired it drops and then I win!

Well, I had the sound problem again today, so it must be this computer has a problem syncing up the audio and visual components of the animation.
We haven't gotten nearly enough books from the Advent Calendar this year... I'm still waiting for the one day that's just truly awesome and spectacular.
