You've all heard of Captain Byrd, right? No, not the one on Spyro. The one that did something in a plane in up in the Arctic in 1947.

Well, I read something today about him keeping a secret diary, which he never revealed but his Grandson got it and sent it to this site. Or something. Its really short, but... interesting...

I'd just say he stayed up late watching UFO movies, and was having a wierd dream... but they didn't have UFO movies in the 1940's, did they?

Ooooh, that'd be really interesting if it was true. I'm not saying it's not, there's just so many hoaxes out there already nobody can really be sure. It is a great thought, though...

Sure they did...there were sci-fi radio shows in the 30s, like "War of the Worlds," and I'm pretty sure that a few UFO movies were released in the 40s.

I don't believe it. At all.

It just... sounds... REALLY fake.

Sounds impossible to me. How can you be in the Arctic one minute, and then the next be in an area where there's rolling green hills with a temperature of 74F?

Some stories may sound impossible to many. But imagine if it did happen to you. Wouldn't it be frustrating if no one believed you?

I often question things and wonder if there's something secret about this earth we humans can't see or touch with our hands. Who knows? No one is for sure what's possible. I'm not saying it's real or not, I'm just open for believing anything.

A hundred years ago you'd be laughed at if you told someone you could talk to a person in Japan while sitting on a "computer" in New Jersey. *shrug*

There are many hoaxed out there, so we as the internet generation have to be cautious. To pick out the fakes from the truth is almos as impossible as mixing salt and pepper, and taking out all the salt grains with your bare hands. ;)

It's actually a common belief among some cultures that there is an "inner-earth" populated by a whole civilization that matches what is found on the surface. I'm not saying I believe it myself, but where do you think all these similar myths came from?

One theory I've heard is that the earth is acutally shaped like a geoditic sphere with openings at either pole and a hollow interior. They're making breakthroughs in the shape/makeup of things on the microscopic scale (i.e. String Theory), so why couldn't the macroscopic world still hold the same sort of surprises?

Anyway....interesting topic! :P

He was up at the North Pole when it happened... my dad said something about a map where he went underground. I'll go look for it. I may have heard him wrong, however.

this is why i love the fermi paradox, it stops this kind of rubbish.
sure theres much we dont understand, but then there are some things that are irrifutable.

oh and only one town freaked out while listening to the war of the worlds, not the entire country.
