Q: What exactly is this talk of special sidebars? Someone said that if you get certain ones, you get random events and certain items. Is this true?

A: It is true. On special days, everybody gets a different themed one, and there are ways to unlock these to have every day, much the same way as unlocking an avatar. If you have one of these special sidebars, they can affect your site play. They could alter how many Neopoints you get from a particular game, increase your chances of getting an event, or even give you new areas to explore!

Are there special sidebars, can you unlock them, has anyone, do these things actually happen?

Throw it into the "Great ideas that never got enough attention and never quite panned out" pile.

Well, the sidebar thing is, in my opinion, a fiasco. There has been alot of talk about them, but I don't think that many people actually have the themed sidebars.

The haunted woods sidebar appeared on Halloween. People who happened to be refreshing at the stroke of midnight got to keep (unlock) that sidebar ... unless they didn't. I know I was on the site, probably refreshing somewhere and I didn't get it.

The winter sidebar, well, if anyone actually does have that please post. I don't know one person who was able to figure out how to unlock that one.

The valentine's sidebar was done like some of the avatars. You had to get a card and send it to someone - then both of you got to keep that sidebar. The cards did rs, but it was close to impossible for most people to grab one. So they didn't get the sidebar unless they were willing to spend around 200k for a card.

As far as They could alter how many Neopoints you get from a particular game, increase your chances of getting an event, or even give you new areas to explore! goes, I don't know of any way to ever get more than 1k from a play of a game (except the gambling ones). New areas to explore? I'd never heard that. More chances of REs? Supposedly on your birthday when you get the birthday sidebar for the day those chances are increased. I did not see one RE on my birthday, with the sidebar.

You can probably guess by now that I don't have any of the special sidebars. I don't care, I wouldn't use them. They slow page loading (on dial up), and no one but you would see them anyway. It's not like if you had, say, the haunted woods sidebar and used it that everyone could see it on your lookup even. So all the fuss, np and bother about these is, IMHO, overrated.

On your birthday you get a special sidebar that is supose to give your more Random Events. You also get this bar on Neopets birthday...but that's the only one so far that I've heard gives you anything extra speical

I find the increase in REs on the birthday sidebar to be true...well, for one of my friends at least...but that could have just been a pop-up wave of REs, like the ones that occured a few times to some PPTers.

I have been using the Valentine's Sidebar, I have gotten 3 codestones since I have had it and a lab map piece. On the ugly yellow one I got nothing ever.

Well, thats whats supposed to happen. But its all random so its never really been proved.

yes, but it is slightly hard to tell sometimes, and as far as I can tell, only the birthday and valentines sidebars do anything really to help you to much :/


rather poor job they did if you ask me... and only being available on one day? I guess I could understand, but they should have let them be available for at least 2 days, instead of leaving just a few people who were lucky enough to be on at the exact right time, and give little to no chance to everyone else finding out how to get it.... just my opinion though...

I've had the valentines day sidebar for a few weeks and I havent noticed a uplif in random events :/

I haven't noticed an increase in REs either. Except I won two codestones from Tombola today. That was nice.

On my birthday I got 3 RE's and 2 faerie quests. I refreshed a lot on purpose, but on a normal day when I play refresher games all day, I don't get that much.

The Halloween sidebar is supposed to make you luckier in the Haunted Woods and less so in Faerieland, if I recall correctly.

Actually, its supposed to take away your ability to visit Faerieland altogether, and increase your chances of winning in the Haunted Woods games.

Why I remember, I'll never know... I don't even have it.
