So you don't think it's harsh that an adult in a position of power can call a 5 year old child a disgusting pig? I think that's pretty disgusting myself. I feel sorry for the poor kid, he must have been so intimidated.

Plus, they are other ways of teaching a young child good table manners. Petty insults are not one of them.

Not a five year old, no. They don't know any better. But if a child 8 or up was eating in that way then yes. It's not right for ANY child above that age to eat like that and I do think it's alright to call them disgusting. Maybe calling them a disgusting pig would be harsh though, I must admit.

Calling someone disgusting, or a disgusting pig is a form of bullying. It is not right for a teacher to bully any student.

Not to me it isn't. That isn't bullying at all. If a child knows full well what he's doing is wrong (in this case eating with no manners and being really disgusting around other students) then the teacher can say that he is being disgusting. If she started to calling him offensive names and the like and was being really mean and humiliating in front of everyone, then yes.

What happens if he didn't, huh? Is it still OK for a teacher to intimidate, bully a 5 year old because of moral superiority? Well, is it?

And my opinion still stands. People who can't be bothered to learn manners deserve to be called disgusting.

It is not the teacher's place to insult the student as a form of discipline. In fact, the only way a teacher should discipline a student is either, 1) detention, 2) a strict conversation where the teacher politely lays out what is wrong, why it is wrong, what should be done about it, and how.

That's your opinion. If a child is being naughty/rude/disgusting, then the teacher can call them disgusting. And that is MY opinion and no one can change that. I suggest you just let this drop now, okay? Everyone has their own opinions and not once have I dissed your opinion.

Okay then. A different perspective. Ginger, would you like it if anyone called you disgusting, justified or not?

I get called it most days. I'm used to it. I really would appreciate it if you stopped questioning my opinion and just leave me be.

But do you like it? Imagine if you were 5 years old, brimming with confidence, and then the person that is supposed to guide your education calls you that.
