mazil, have you cleaned out your cache, history, etc.? Sometimes it gets too full and that can either slow you down or stop you in your tracks.
Im having a problem, and I'm ready to throw my computer out the window (and it's in a big case!). OK, it's been acting funky. Today the tech who originally built the computer came over. I had a new PSU put in (old one dying) - thermaltake dual fan 420w atx. I also had my puter reformatted ... Win XP sp2 (now removed - messed too many things up). D/L FF, got flash and shockwave for that. Got flash and shockwave for IE.
I'm not sure if when the old PSU started going, it damaged something or I just need an upgrade or what. Some games, and some animation (like animated backgrounds, things like that) just aren't "right". Some of my games are running kind of spastic, not smooth. Like Igloo game - when the things fall, they start to fall, then a tiniest pause, fall, pause ... weird to try to explain. Whack-a-staff, I don't seem to be able to control the mouse to hit when I get to like, level 6 and up. Animated pages make my mouse move very strangely - jerky, slow and hard to control.
Could it just be I need new ram sticks? (have 2 512, but they're not the same manufacturer if that makes any difference), and I know my video/graphics card isn't super up to date, I can't update the driver - the only update is a beta which I never put on my computer. Could it be the card? Any advice on a small upgrade from that one? I can't afford alot right now. I can't really afford new ram, but if that's the problem, it's the easiest fix.
Here's basically my computer:
AMD Athlon 1800+, 1.54 ghz w/VIA chipset, 1 gig ram, 80 g HD (about 90% free), hercules 4500 3D prophet, realtek family friendly nic, cable internet, zonealarmpro firewall, avast! a/v, ad-aware, spybot, spywareblaster, CCleaner, HijackThis, PSP7, Yahoo messenger. That's all that's on the computer right now. I only ask because I've tried unsuccessfully before to put this on my computer and it wouldn't work. Could it be the SP2? All current critical updates were done prior to installing the SP2 and again after uninstalling SP2.
Also, does anyone know of a webcam that will work with VIA chipsets? Logitech apparently won't - I just got one last night, the communicator, and it won't work. The tech couldn't get it to work for more than 2 minutes before it just went dark (there was a blue lcd light for the 2 minutes or so) and now? No joy. This is apparently a known issue by Logitech. Why they can't or won't make a cam that works with a highly popular chipset is beyond me. But then, I'm no techie!
