I don't like the summer olympics. Once you've seen it once, you've seen it all. I prefer the winter olympics, mainly because of the ice skating/ice dancing. It really shows you the creativity of some of the talented athlete's out there, and no performance is ever the same. Take swimming for example- there's nothing special about it. You swim whatever distance is set, and then you're done. There's nothing to judge on. All that matters is who gets done first... and no matter how many swim meets you go to, the majority of them will be exactly the same. But not with ice skating/ice dancing. You always see something you've never seen before, which I think is more entertaining than seeing the same thing done over and over again.

Dawn, I disagree. There's the various forms of gymnastics, there are the divin events, synchronised swimming, etc. Swimming's more of an art, actually. Yes, you only have to be the fastest swimmer. But to be the fastest, you have to know what you're doing.

(Perhaps I'm being a crazy lady, though. I'm a bit obsessed with swimming, after all)

Oh. And what athletes are you guys rooting for? For me... Go everyone from Baltimore/Maryland, especially Michael Phelps and Katie Hoff. ^_^

Yeah.. I have to disagree with you, too, Dawn. Not all swimming is based on whoever the "fastest" is. Diving, for example.

Plus all the things that Alex mentioned.

The only athletes so far that I'm rooting for are Phelps and Thorpe.

I'm such a dork. I was watching Michael Phelps swim the 400-meter individual medley. When he won the gold, I got up and jumped up and down. But it wasn't really because he won the gold, it was obvious he would as he was so far ahead, it was because he just barely set a world record =D

I just watched the opening thing for about an hour..then realised that wasn't the real thing! Then I watched swimming for about 10 minutes and got bored. :/

There's one thing I like the most about the olympics...

The men are all buff and hawt.

China and USA played a GREAT volleyball game. I sat there for over an hour watching them (China won). Last time the Olympics were around, I was 9, and I didn't pay attention to any of the games. I wish I did.

Well, I'm making up for lost time.

I don't like volleyball so.. I couldn't sit through watching that...

But I did just get done watching the men's gymnastics things.

Now... is it just me or does it seem like the judges were giving the US just horrible scores? I mean of course they weren't doing the best... but come on! That chinese guy fell off of the pommel horse and he scored a 9.4something!!!!!!!!

It was the same thing for the synchronized diving for the US men. Those judges just had something against them. Their last dive was pretty good except for the big splash and they got just terrible scores.
But one of the other countries were just totally out of sync with eachother and they scored a heckofalot higher than the US guys!

Grrr.. that just ticked me off when all of that happened.

Oh Oh... did anyone see that Russian gymnist on those bar things? I dunno what they're called... but they're right next to eachother..
But anyway... he landed on his hand wrong and his ring finger got all dislocated! And of course it had to show it in slowmotion.. UUUUUUUGH it looked PAINFUL

And I most definitely approve of fangirling any of those athletes. They deserve to be fangirled, unlike certain actors who can't act, yet have millions of rabid fangirls (hmm, I wonder who?).

(Yes, I approve of certain types of fangirling. Atheletic fangirling is fine, unless you're throwing yourself at your love object, or want to marry him/her and have a few children- that's just scary, girl. That's like stalker-scary. Omg you're gonna marry the Thorpedo when you're older, liek lol and you'll have five children, lol lol lol omg lol!11

Can't wait until Phelps and Thorpe face off... Shall be interesting. Not sure who to root for for the gold medal, but I'm more inclined to support Phelps... After all, he <i>is</i> from Baltimore (Towson, actually, but that's like three minutes away- and he trains at the North Baltimore Aquatic Center (I would know, I've seen him swim in a race there- amazing), so nyah).

Actually, no swim meet is exactly the same. From experience I'd have to say they're pretty interesting. It takes work and effort. I admire those people who cna actually do 400m+. Exchanges can be very very hard and crucial as well as the dives (I scraped my nose in practice x_x). I do see the point you're trying to make though. If you want art in swimming, watch synchronized swimming or synchronized diving.

Anyways, Phelps was awesome today. Those exchanges were so good. He got way past the 5m line x_x And he really improved his breaststroke, it was so great ^^; (Yes, I'm a bit obsessed with swimming XP)

And poo, Dominican Republic lost to Russia. I know they'll lose to China and the U.S hands down XP I hope they win at least once >_> (I'm talking about Volleyball, btw).

So all Dutch people are cool?

I still stand by my original post. Even if there's a shred of creativity in certain sports in the summer olympics, I still prefer the winter.

Well, if thats the case then, * looks 3/4 proud* Well, I'm only 3/4 Dutch.
