Where did you recieve that piece of information? Because it is partly untrue. Parakeets can be noisy, but not any more than any other bird or regular pet- and not even close to the amount of noise finches make.

If you give a lot of time and make sure they know you love them, they could become "cuddly". And if you aren't willing to wait a long time for the bond between bird and owner to form, then you really should not be getting a bird- or any pet, for that matter. No pet is treated as well as it can be treated if there's impatience involved.

I do. I have 9 pets for goodness sakes. :P My mom just had Parakeets when she was younger and she said they were loud and messy. That be all.

Dad is really leanin towards love birds. I think I am too. :) So thanks for the help. We will be going to the pet store when he gets home to pick me up. I'll tell you all how it goes.

Okay.

And if your mom thinks parakeets are loud ((*snorts*)) then you definitely do not want finches.

What about lovebirds. they're cute and adorable but sometimes, they can fly at you and nip you.

Cockatiels don't really bite, they nibble. That is, if they are like my Granny's. The only problem is they squawk. And I don't mean just squawk, but squawk. So if noise is an issue, then they're definately out. And the fact they cost over a thousand dollars.

Definately don't go for Macaw. They tend to be really rude, even if they mean it kindly. Granny's bit my brothers pinky nail off, and he was kind of temperamental.

Mmm... I own four budgies and they're loud little suckers. They think they have to compete to be loudest with anything in the house. TV, Phones... Talking. They like to talk back.

Where I live at least, budgies are 15-30 dollars (depending on the colors), and anything else is very expensive (for me at least). Most finches here sell for 80 -150 dollars, same with canaries and Love birds.
Birds almost always do best in pairs, unless they're a smarter type of parrot that you have the time to invest with (though thats true for most birds).
Budgies aren't really all that messy either. I set new paper down for them twice a week and generally that works.
My old canary was far messier. He HATED the black seeds in his seed mixes; so he'd spit them out. He also spit water at people, but he sang beautifully. He was also hand tame, and very affectionate.
My personal choice would be for a canary because they can be energetic little birds, and they have a beautiful song.

Well..we will be picking up our Cinnamon Green Cheek Conure Sunday! She is beautiful. We bonded really fast. I think moms upset we spent so much. I wish I wouldn't have told,I ruined it She was all jumpy and excited asking where her bird is,then she got all silent..she said I didn't dissapoint her,but I dunno..

In that case, I'd suspect everyone would use a cage ;)

That reminds me, to let my birds out of the cage for an hour or so, gotta get exercise, they refuse to eat anything but seeds to so I let them fly around in my room to get em' trim.

Medli, do you plan on clipping there wings or just letting them stay long?

Probably let them grow in. I dont have the heart the put them through that. My poor little Conure's wings are still so short she cant even stay in the air. (And we have had her for about 3 months and 3 weeks. Our Amazon can fly almost perfectly.)

That seed thing may be a very good idea. As long as they dont crap on my bed or desk, anyway. ;)

*gasp* I though I never see you use the word "crap" Medli, first time for everything I guess.

I suggest not clipping there wings though if you have cats, so if your cat happens upon them while there out of the cage or something they can escape. Plus its a form of mutilation in my opinion, well not really but it does take away there god given gift of flight.

Fine. All of the parakeets I'VE SEEN are not loud. Happy now?
