For about a week we've been thinking that the skunks that run around in our backyards are rabid...They came out during the day, and there were a couple walking drunkenly. On Saturday there was one foaming at the mouth, so, yes, they are rabid.

Everyone on my (very long) street is under orders not to leave the house until the city gets hold of exterminators to clear all the skunks away.

Have any of you had any encounters with rabid animals?

Well, I don't think it was rabid, but there was this squirrel that let me get up close to it... I thought it was just nice. But then it came running at me, and I was like "EEEEEK!" and tried to hit it with a stick. It was also making weird grunting noises. And when I ran to the other side of the lawn, it climbed up on a tree branch, like it was gonna dive-bomb me! So when I ran inside my house, I heard it screeching, like "EEEEEEEEEEEE!!!". It was crazy. O_o;;

P.S. I saw a non-rabid skunk yesterday. Cuuuuute. ^_^

I think its a bit drastic to tell everyone to stay in doors because of a rabid skunk. I mean whats the chances of it coming at you in broad daylight and attacking your leg; but anyway, I've seen a rabid squirrl before, it came across the street almost got hit by a car went up into a tree, and got attacked by a bird then fell to the ground and died, to put it shortly. Its a long extensive story wich involves a suar and a crazy old guy.

Oh dear, that made me laugh. xD

Rabid animals? Yes. There was a squirrel and their family living under the bath. It scratched my face and we had to put gloves on to get them all out. X_X But that's not rabid. Is it. O.o

Nope. Rabid animals foam at the mouth. Nope. I (thankfully) have never encountered a rabid animal. But the other day my neighbours anklebiter came after me when it escaped their house. I closed my door and I heard a bang shortly afterwards. I'm not even going to say what I think the bang was! XD

There's more than one, there are several that are rabid (as well as a few who aren't but most likely soon will be), and they actually spread to a couple of the crows, we think, because one that was foaming at the mouth flew into my window (Which was closed, thankfully). Although we're not sure whether it was the crows or the skunks first.

Meh. They have to keep us in, because if we get rabies then we can sue the city for five million cajillion dollars. So.

At my old house we had woods behind our backyard, so we used to get all kinds of animals such as deers, rabbits, raccoons, skunks, squirrels, snakes, bats, porcupines, even a bear.
And I skunk once 'went' in my dads running shoes :P

Not always. Foaming at the mouth is a very late stage of rabies; the animals go crazy first I believe.

I think we had a pair of rabid dogs (not at the foaming stage yet) in our neighbors front yard a few days ago... they were both attacking this little dog. One was pulling and shaking on one side, and the other dog was doing the same thing to the other side, on the neck... it was horrible. Some guy taking a walk scared them off the poor little dog...

No, I'd have to say that I've been lucky in the way of rabid animals. But several skunks and birds are infected in your neighborhood? Geez, I hope the exterminators get there soon, that's a crazy amount.

Yup. However, my house is at the very end of a series of cul-de-sacs, so we'll be the last to have them cleared up.

Geehh...I can see one skunk walking around right now in my yard by the chestnut tree, it's doing the drunk walk...Eh...

Rabid animals, no, but we did have a rather large family of angry skunks living in our back yard two summers ago. It wasn't the most pleasant experience.
They first appeared when I was standing outside on the phone. I had a few friends over and we were tryng to convince someone else to come by with pizza. I heard a shuffling noise and turned around just in time to see about seven skunk running towards me. I ran back inside and then the smell hit me. I'm pretty sure they sprayed everything in our backyard. It smelled for quite sometime. Luckily, they left towards the end of the summer and were replaced by an adorable opossum family.

Not rabid skunks, but a skunk did poop on one of my dirty socks at Scout Camp, many years ago.

Those critters'll go through a lot to get to something that smells interesting, I tell you what.

I dont think those skunks are "rabid". Maybe they got into rat poison or something?

I'm not one to call something rabid untill I have total proof.

How would rat poison explain the foaming at the mouth?

No rabid animals, but I have insane squirrels around my yard that try to crack open/eat rocks. Large rocks.
