Modem and floppy drive should have no association with each other. If you use an anti-virus, you should disable it while playing.

Ducky: Make sure you have the correct drivers installed for your sound card. Wrong or improperly installed drivers for devices will prevent the device from working properly. Just find out what sound card you have, or if you already know, go to the manufacturer's web site and download the proper drivers for your card.

No, not lag as in ping fluctuation. The WHOLE computer would stop for 2 seconds while the floppy drive makes the noise. This has never happened before. What's also funny is that it only happens in Battlefield 1942 and not any other games. I have clean reinstalled the game twice already but it has not fixed up.

Thanks in advance.

Well try doing something to refresh your screen...try this:

Right click and go to properties, make sure your in the themes section and go to: Windows XP

That should reset it back to its normal mode and mite fix all the black.

Mm, I've got a link problem. Whenever I click a link, the text size (you know, as in "View >> Text Size") of everything goes down a notch while the next page loads, then it returns to normal. I haven't changed any of my Internet settings lately, I think, other than clearing a few temporary internet files...

It doesn't seem like it's something harmful, but it's really annoying me.

I've really started to hate my computer. I'm using a bit less than half of my hard drive space, and my computer goes amazingly slow. My sister is using almost ALL of her hard drive space, and her computer goes about three times as fast as mine. I can't think of anything to do to make it go faster... any help will be appreciated.

HD space isn't crucial to performance -- especially if the rest of your configuration is old. You can buy a new PC if it bugs you too much.

Other than that, you might want to increase virtual memory size (that's somewhere in My Computer>Properties), and make sure you don't run any demanding applications that you don't need (check Task Manager).

Yea, where did my post go?

Anyways, to sum it up, you can tweak your system to make it run faster. Here are some links to guides and tips to do that:

Hey, there's something wrong with my internet connection. I can surf through internet explorer fine, but I can't seem to connect to exteernal programs. Examples:

When I try to play games which require macromedia shockwave, I cant connect to the sites server to download it
I can't play the internet games that come with the PC such as internet reversi, and internet checkers.
I can't connect to and P2P networks

I got my PC wiped recenlty because there were loadsa viruses on it, then I downloaded Ares (P2P program), and it connected fine. This is what I find strange. Then, the next days after that, it wouldn't connect, and I don't think I changed anything, so does anyone know how to sort out my connection. If you need to know, then its a motorola surfboard broadband cable modem.

Ok, I'm at my brother's house, and he has some security settings enabled that dont let me play Neopets correctly.

He has Norton Internet Security. Where can I go in there to add Neopets to a 'allowed site' or whatever, so I can do things on Neopets? I can't view the shop wizard, take things out of my SDB/shop, create trades etc.

Any help is appreciated.

Something must be blocking the ports that let you connect to those kind of servers. The P2P program must be putting some kind of block on the ports. You can try fiddling with the settings or uninstalling it to see if that solves the problem.

I had Spybot Search and Destroy (I Already had Ad-aware 6.0), but had to remove it because whenever I ran it Groupwise stopped working (my parents desperately need to check their Groupwise E-Mail. It's full of their scheduled appointments, etc...). It worked fantastic, and it removed things Ad-Aware couldn't. I really want it back, so is there any reason Groupwise stopped working?

Those programs probably used a file shared by both programs, therefore they will conflict with each other. They will usually fight for complete use of the file.
