i find counting backwards from a large number helps.

also, try dissociating your bedrooom from any other activities other than sleeping. like if you have to do your homework see if tehres another room in the house you can do it in, try not to watch tv in bed. because if you dont associate your room with sleep you might have problems sleeping. i had issues getting to sleep a couple of years ago. and i persuaded my parents to let me move my computer into a different room, and i got better after that, once i stopped doing stuff other than sleeping in my room

i used to have insomnia. i figured out that my mind wouldnt let me sleep- it kept on drifting off and thinking about stuff and keeping me away. i couldnt concentrate on sleeping.
so i just made myself a cd with nice soft acoustic songs. when i listen to music, i concentrate on that. and that puts me to sleep.
Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" [is an amazing song that] helps me sleep most of the time.
if you do this, though, keep away from those songs otherwise. cause youll start associating them with sleep.

I've always had sleeping problems, and it doesn't help when I'm sick.

I usually just go to bed when I'm tired, within reason. Some nights I get tired early, others I don't. If I can't sleep, I either put on music, or read a book or something. Textbooks do wonders for making you fall to sleep (though not good if you actually need to revise ;) )

Thats funny...because i just got up from bed because I couldnt go to sleep. Im definetly an insomniac cause I stay up to about 1-2 a.m. Im trying to break that habit because of school. and i just need the rest.

I have trouble sleeping too - I get it from my dad's side ¬.¬


I find that listening to a certain cd helps. I listened to Evanescence - Fallen every nigth when I was on holiday, because my sleeping pattern would get messed up. The first night I got through it all once. Then put it away. The second night I listened to 10 songs before going to sleep. The third, forth, fifth and sixth I got to the 4th or 5th.

It's some kind of..associating...thing...don't ask me, heh.

Maybe you're going to bed too early?
Whenever I go to bed earlier than 11pm, I will always stay awake until like, 2am. No matter what I try to do to get to sleep. So what I've done, is just go to bed at 2am, then try to sleep. All in all I get 3-5 hours of sleep each day. Which is still pretty much. :)

I'm also a total insomniac, and I've yet to find a fail-proof method, but...

I find picking one CD that I've already listened to a lot and just keeping it in my CD player and hitting play before I go to sleep helps. I change it maybe after a month or so, but it's the repetition that helps the sleep. I also do what someone else said...I play a mini movie in my head. At first it keeps me up, but once I have the storyline, I start at the beginning each night and I can usually get to sleep fairly quickly. You have to be careful the storyline you pick, though, sometimes it'll keep you up trying to add. =P As for reading...sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. I have only fallen asleep reading once in my life (and that was due to jetlag), so as I read, if the book is good, I try to stay awake to finish it. =P

Dunno if that made any sense, but a combination of those things usually works eventually for me. =)

For me, it sometimes takes 2 hours to go to sleep, but my mom falls asleep in a couple of seconds.
What helps me fall asleep is thinking about nothing. Not not thinking, but thinking about nothing. I just don't let my mind drift to different thoughts, I hum a tune, or just think nothingness. It's kinda hard to explain but when I do that I fall asleep fast, and sleep very well. Although sometimes it's fun to drift off into thought. Also what helps me fall asleep is that I dream at night, and I really like dreaming so thinking about the fact that I will dream makes me want to go to sleep. Stupid, I know, but it helps. :P

Well it can't be heat ...and it can't b cold... maybe its your bed? I find sleeping on hard places not very soothing to people(though I can't understand why....I love hard places!)

I read a book. It's usually one I've already read otherwise I'll stay up and read the end which defeats the purpose. I sometimes write in my diary but thats only if I'm not at all tired.

I can get by on not much sleep so I don't go to bed until I'm tired so I fall asleep reasonably quickly.

I'd say some sleeping pills might help. :) I'm sorta like that (these past two nights haven't had me asleep until 12 am or so, I keep dozing off and having the extremely weirdest dreams.), I always read a book, or do something on my computer. (I always play the slower music I have on it.)

There are natural remedies for insomnia, just go into your local superstore like Tescos, or pharmacy for them, or you could try nytol, that's what I've had to try to use while we have pigeons in the loft. They will help you sleep.

Oh yeah, don't look at clocks. I heard that on the news a long time ago, and I remember it. I don't remember why, but don't look at the clock. Even if you get to sleep, wake up, and want to get back to sleep, don't look at the clock.

An exercise that always works for me is I tense up one area in my body for ten, fifteen seconds...and release. Breathe in, breathe out. Do another body part (calves, legs, thighs, stomach, jaw...everything)Tense...release. Breath in, breath out. You'll sleep like a baby in no time. ^^
