OK, so they got rid of the GC because it was a nightmare. What happened? All the spammers, off topic, a/s/l, am I (insert whatever here) boards then moved to all the other boards. RP I've only visited from time to time and never really saw that much that was appropriate to be honest. The NB makes my eyes bleed, that is only second to the old GC.
I think they will eventually try to get rid of all the boards, which would be a shame. The BD, TD and HD do serve a real purpose.
Yes, you actually can get help on the HD, it's a matter of people wading through all the chain letters and other off topic garbage to find the real questions.
The BD, well that has always been a good source of information (I lurk there, don't battle). Lately that has even been over run with insanity, and yes, it has been since the McDonald's promotion and all these new people who don't have any netiquette.
The TD is important for people looking to buy and sell both on the TP and Auctions. How else do you know who has what and for how much. The search on the TP isn't always the most effective way to find someting, especially if, say, you're on an Illusen, Jhudora and maybe even a Fountain Faerie quest.
I wish I knew what the answer was. There has to be a way to keep the important message boards and keep them clean without having report happy people, overzealous monitors, spammers, scammers, etc. I think personally there should be some kind of chain letter filter -- like if the phrase "this is a Neopets Code" (which most of them say) could be picked up and just blocked. I'd really be unhappy to see all the boards go away. Sometimes those are the only way to find out things that are going on on the site, get help, information, advice and yes, even just say "hi" to someone who you see on the boards.
