Has this happened to you before? It has to me. The Spidren(Giant Spiders with human heads for the Tortall books) scare the heck out of me. I mean, its bad enough that I'm afraid of spiders but.....THEY KILLED TWO KITTENS!
God, I'm glad I didn't get that part when I was eight years old. I would of been scared for life.
I'm also scared of The Others from Song of Ice and Fire, but I've never had nightmares about them
What about you?
KItten Killers! The're EVIL! Why wont they let me sleep?

The book Coraline freaked me out, but didn't really give me nightmares. I think the only book which gave me nightmares is Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I had nightmares for pretty much two weeks, well, not really nightmares but scary thoughts...whilst sleeping. I suppose Order of the Phoenix was just too dark...

I would say just the cover of The seventh Tower Book 2.

In a magazine that had something about mummies in it scared me in the night, but I don't think I had nightmares.
Also, I was at this summer program and they were reading this Goosebumps story aloud. I didn't want to listen to it, but I didn't have much of a choice. The point is...I was REALLY scared. (And in one point in the story, it was supposed to rain. Guess what! It rained where we were. In the story, it rained harder. You can guess...)
Do fan fics count?

When I was about 7 or 8 a book about walking trees called stump people gave me a mega nightmare. I can't remember what it was called it was part of a series.
I always dream about what I read in bed but I wouldn't say that I had nightmares about them.
I'm reading Watership down at the minute and I was dreaming that I was a rabbit the other night

This is a bit off topic, but I just think it's interesting...as I read Watership Down, I forget that they're rabbits, so I doubt it'd ever have that effect on me. =P

Watership Down has such lovely bunnies!
No book has actually ever given me a nightmare. There are two books that have really frightened me though, and I put those down before continuing any further in case I really did get a nightmare (
Dracula and
Phantom of the Opera).
Books have made me physically ill though -
Animal Farm, 1984, Lord of the Flies, The Handmaid's Tale to a name a few.

Ah, a while ago I read a book of scary stories in B.C. It was probably two months ago. It scared the heck out of me because there was this "possessed" doll named Mandy, and they showed a picture of her, which didn't give me nightmares, but made me have considerable sleep loss. Until I recently convinced myself that Mandy was an ignorant doll who only messed around with photographers and that She'd have to take a ferry to get me, and that if she came into my room I could kick her and bite her, if need be. Or torture her with my nail clippers. There were also these ghost stories, and I've kept hearing foot steps in my bedroom since, but when I cover my ears I can still hear them, so it's in my mind.
That along with the whining of a supposed "West-Nile" infected mosquitoe.
Salamandastron gave me nightmares. I was always dreaming about being poisoned and skeletons and everything afterwards for about a month.
I am a person of many fears. Or was.

When I was younger I read one of the "Goosebumps" books and had nightmares for a week. Two months ago I looked it one to see what it was like, and it was so stupid.

Oddly, the only book that's ever given me nightmares is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I just don't .. like .. the dementors.
And while the book Coraline never gave me nightmares, it majorly shook me. Walking hands with five-inch fingernails ..

Oryx and Crake never really gave me nightmares, but it sure did irk me. Such pessimistic views.

To tell you the truth the only book I've ever read that's given my nightmares and I'm a big horror/thriller novel reader was Night of the Living Dummy II by RL Stine (a Goosebumps book) when I was probably about 8-12. I had no problem with the other Night of the Living Dummies it was just that one. I woke up after hearing the Dummy's (can't remember his name) footsteps coming up the hallway towards my room and I found myself tangled under the sheets that cover my mattress (still can't work out how I got under them) and I couldn't move at all which made things 100 times worse. Looking back now it was a really stupid story but you know, at the time it freaked me out!
I've read some non-fiction books that weren't so much scary but that were really disturbing too.
