Has anybody here made bread with a Breadmaker before? Two days ago we purchased a breadmaker from Briscoes, and now we're acually MAKING bread with it. I'm nervous, because we used substitute ingredient e.g milk powder, but we ddin't have it so we used liquid milk.

I have a bread maker and I love it but don't use it as much as I got it 7 (wow long time ago) years ago.

If you substitute the powder milk with the right amound of liquid(water/milk) called for it'll still work. you just might have to check on the doughs moisture level after it starts kneading to see if you have to add more liquid or flour if needed.

One thing about breadmakers is it's not a lot of work to use, and sometimes you just need to experiment for yourself so it's usually not a problem to start over if you mess something up (lol I Have many times :oops: )

I'm glad it turned out good, nothing like fresh bread.

I also forgot to post in my first message, don't worry about buying the powdered milk, I have never used it when it's been called for. because that's the only time I would actually use it, and it wouldn't get all used up.

What IS powdered milk anyway? Like milk crystals?

Next time, be gotta use milk instead of powdered milk, and that ingredient we skipped....bread improver I think!

My mom had a breadmaker years ago...
it was cool because you can always make your own type, and it always comes out fresh :D

powdered milk is dehydrated milk, used mostly in baking and enriching store milk with added calcium, drinking it blech.

Bread improver, never heard of that, and since your machine is brand new so would all the other fun stuff they want you to add into it. anyways if you do try the bread improver let me know how much of a difference it makes.

I use a breadmaker, however no matter how many times you use it theres still a 50/50 chance of it turning into a large strange soggy lump.

*shrugs* Never heard of OR seen it...and besides the bread is good already.

We had a problem when we were taking it out. At first when we tried to pull it out, there was some kind of lock and it wouldn't come out. A fee minuets later we attempted again and it just came out o.O maye you gotta wait a few minutes for everything to cool down, then only it will remove.

Yes, in the booklet it has recipes for many various types of bread. Today we made traditional white bread. It takes HOURS to make it...I wouldn't want to make it without 21st century technology in 1895.

Ahh but it's way more fun to make the bread by yourself :D I don't usually bake that much bread, but cinnamon swirls and cupcakes on the other hand... :) Anyway, basically I'm just saying I think you're missing out on the fun part, but then again, that's just my opinion.

Fresh baked bread is the best. I too have a bread maker, it's so cool...barely use it though :(. l love when the bread is ready and hot and your butter melts on it. It also makes the house smell so good. Bread makers are pretty neat, you can make tons of stuff in them, even pizza dough and such :)

My dad used to have a breadmaker...he'd wanted one for years, then we got him one for Christmas, and he used it, like, once. =P It seemed like far more trouble than it was really worth. The bread was good, though.

Yes, you always get fresh bread :)

Cassi, why don't you try it? Trust me, you'll get yummy, fresh bread. It's much better than the store bread, because this is 5 minutes fresh.

I didn't know you could make cupcakes :o It doesn't have a recipe for it in the booklet...maybe this is for only bread? It only has bread. But it says "Cakes" :D

any type of dough can be mixed in most bread machine. or even mix and bake quick breads. just read about the bread machines settings for what you can do. Mine even makes jam...but I don't know any recipes that turns out under 3 cups, so they'll be to big for the bread machine.
