I come from a really small town with a lot of history...

First we have a revolutionary battle site that is also a state beach (it is fun to go climb on the cannons that over look the harbor and the hurricane dike (the cannons have been there since before the civil war))

Then we had a millionaire who was right-hand man to Rockefeller who lived here. He donated like 3 schools, the town hall, and the library to the town (technically he sold them to the town for a buck a peice). He also built a unitarian church. Now you may think so what? Well you should see these buildings. One of the three schools is the high school that I went to. It had marble floors, hand-crafted plaster cielings, carved wood everywhere, gargoyles on the outside. If you have ever been to the Newport Mansions, it looked like that. He wanted to create a place in which students would enjoy learning. Anyway, it isn't just the high school that is like that, all the buildings he gave to the town are like that.

My town also has a sister city relationship with another city in Japan. I won't bore you with the history but it involves a guy named Manjiro Nakahama (sic?) and the opening of Japan. So we have a "Japanese Room" in the library that has all sorts of cultural objects including a set of ceromonial samurai swords.

Um... yeah, there is a lot more that I could talk about, but that is enough of a history lesson for today. :D

Edit: I went and dug up some pictures.

I'm finally back for the summer, although hopefully I'll spend a little more time away from this screen.

I thought you were from Brampton.

Ohio State, to the dismay of my boyfriend. XD

Although when OSU isn't playing BGSU. My mom gets annoyed with that though since she's a Toledo Alum.

Friends don't let friends go to Toledo :battar:

My mother's from Toledo originally (She went to OU). Apparently, it was called "Bancroft High" when she lived there.

For those who don't know, the University of Toledo is a Division I-A state school in Toledo, one of the 5 largest cities in the state of Ohio (Toledo is famous for its golf courses, the Mudhens of Casey at the Bat fame, and manufacturing, primarily glass). It's on Bancroft Avenue and is not regarded as an academically rigorous program, hence the "Bancroft High" moniker.

Not much, really. But we live very close to Atlanta, and Atlanta has all sorts of interesting histories and whatnot.

.. and we're pretty good with academic competitions and test scores. Our middle school has won the state and national championships in quiz bowls multiple times. =/

Woo Bancroft street! \o/

I used to live on Dorr street in an old frat house. 13 rooms, 16 bathrooms. :D It was great.

My town (Troy, OH) is not very famous, but it has a lot of history.

The Strawberry festival is the biggest thing. People come from all over the state - which is sad when you think about it! But I have seen license plates there from, like, Alaska and Texas before.

We had a huge murder here in the 1920s. The investigation surrounded some very prominent figures in Troy. And...in my humble opinion, they never charged the guy who REALLY did it. But everyone was talking about this murder back in the day....From California to New York.

There was a fight between our town and our rival town (the town just north of here) a long time ago about who should have the county seat. It kept moving back and forth for years until finally a (beautiful) courthouse was erected in Troy - so Piqua had to give up the fight.

I think that's about it. Nothing interesting or newsworthy ever happens here anymore. :)

Yeah Toledo!! For some reason I always find it odd when there's someone else around from Ohio. It's like a blackhole, and I never expect anyone else to be here. ;)

But...Ohio is famous for a lot of things. Maynard James Keenan (lead singer of Tool) was born in Akron. Katie Holmes is from Toledo. I can't think of any more right now, but there's a ton of people from Ohio...Including Jerry Springer who used to be the mayor of Cincinatti.
And, if you watch sitcoms a lot, you'll notice a ton of references to Ohio. And there's a bunch in movies too.
