I saw a guy with this scar on his arm. It sort of looked like two overlapping omega signs or two horse shoe shapes overlapping. This was obviously self inflicted... I wonder what that meant...

If I'm getting the gist of what you're talking about, that just might be branding- kinda like a tattoo except instead of ink, it's scar tissue.

Well I kind of wondered what it meant, but I'd never ask him of course. I don't know, it looked painful. I don't know if he did it for a gang or just cause it would look cool. It was definately noticable. I mean, I've seen plenty of tattoos before but never a raised scar like this.

Ouch. Two years ago, I accidentally lost about 1/4" of my fingertip when it was smashed in a door--and basically went nuts with the shock-- that's enough pain to last me for a lifetime. So, I will never understand why people would want to voluntarily inflict pain upon themselves.

I once dated a guy who had a homemade tattoo on his leg--he belonged to a gang when he was in High School (back when "gangs" were like the guys you see in "West Side Story"). He said it was one of the biggest regrets he ever had. He was so embarassed by the tattoo that he never, ever wore shorts. Poor guy! Sometimes people do dumb things that haunt them for the rest of their lives.

It could be a cult or clan or gang, as already mentioned. From what it sounds like, it's probably a type of group.

Yeah, that's what I suspect too. From what you described, the scar sounds like some sort of a symbol of something. It may very well be a symbol of a gang/cult/clan that he is in.

ie: simeltaneously its the wisest and dumbest thing anyone could ever say.
