I got scammed, but I did everything possible....

It was a msn girl she asked me if I did neo, I said I still do she said join this secret chatroom, I did but somehow she got into my account, now my babies are gone... I sent in the stolen account form, hopefully I get it back with all the items.

I'm sorry to say it, but there is no way you could be hacked "accidently". If you're hacked, it's your own fault. No matter what the reason. If your password was guessed, it was your own fault for making it easy. If you gave away your password, it's obvious why it's your fault. And if you give away the answer to your secret question (assuming Neopets has secret questions) it's still your own fault.

Sorry, but I cannot be sympathetic.

Actually, Dawn, if you go to a website that has a cookie grabber without clearing your cookies first, your password and username can easily be obtained.

I don't know what they want, I have just one dubloon, one faerie, and 3 codestones, and a couple petpets,if they want it take, but then just leave me alone..I don't have much np either.

Yes, it could have been a cookie grabber. I've heard there's a way to crack into these instant messengers and certain emails, like hotmail and yahoo. No I don't know how they do it and don't want to know. But someone who is rather popular on the BD was on IM with someone and got hacked (or cracked, as you prefer). This was a long time player who knows not to fall for scams.

I also know of a well-known person who somehow got a backdoor virus via IM and got hacked that way.

I always feel terrible for anyone who gets cracked, hacked or scammed. I don't believe it is always the person's fault. In most cases, yes, better judgement should be used. Like, don't IM with people you don't know, never give your IM or email out to people (I just love! the people who have that info in their siggy and lookup ).

I hope you are able to get your account and pet back.

All I can say it sorry! I got hacker twice! The first time, lost all NP(100K), Fire Mittens(From Advent) and my shop stock. It was my fault. Easy password. The second time, I had a uncrackable password, but I still got hacked! We were on at the same time, so I changed password while he was in. I think it stopped him. I am now much more knowledgeable about hacking. (I still don't know how the second hack happened :shock: ) Just get through it. I had both their names on Neomail, so I reported the and they were frozen. Although, people never helped me with item... But i'm OK now. Just stick with it. And only go where you know it is safe.

big differnace between being hacked and going to an obiously suspect site?
if i went to half the sites i was forwarded too in my old email id...well i probably shouldnt say, but i doubt i need to.
being hacked suggests someone has acessed the database, and taking a few thousand virtual credits is kinda differant to crashing the server of a air and sea rescue centre, and nearly killing half a dozen people (as the sasser wurm did)

Yea, I know what you mean. I was hacked on my four month anniversary. It came without warning - my password wasn't easy to guess, I didn't give it out or anything. They took my 20k, petpets and codestones.

When you get it back, you'll get better, trust me. ^.^

Since I got it back, I have a) made a new account with better names b) had over 500k in the bank at one point c)got the lab ray access!

i'm so sry *huggles* i did an even stupider thing.. i gave my neopets pw to my bf but then he thought i was cheating on him (which i wasn't) and go really PO and stole my account.. luckily he didn't abandon the pets but he did take 400k i got it back in the end lol

But Luckily I got it back about a month later.

Sorrily they took my 200K np, my paintbrushes, but they DIDNT touch my NEOPET!!!

i think that scammers/hackers just want to get in and out ASAP. they just take the money and transfer it to one of their accounts and freeze the hacked account. that way they walk out with tons of neopoints and you cant do anything.

Aww, that's horrible, especially since you can't put a reason to it. A member of my guild also lost their account to a scammer for no reason they could think of, while another had some random stranger guess their password out of the blue.

There's not much that can be done I'm afraid. Just soldier on. Remembers it's how to handle these setbacks that make you great.
