How long until she erupts?

Guess who's back? Thats right. Mount St. Helens looks set to erupt again and she has been placed under the highest volcano alert you can get. The funny thing is in my school you study Mount St. Helens eruption in1980. Looks like we'll have a much more recent eruption to study from now on :P

I'm just glad that they are better prepared this time. Hopefully no one will be hurt.

Those conditions in place... I can't wait to see the footage when it blows!

I'm finally back for the summer, although hopefully I'll spend a little more time away from this screen.

Awesome things have to happen just when I'm not Washington anymore!

Well, at least you won't get covered in ash. :)

I read that it was probably going to erupt in the next 24-48 hours, so keep your eyes peeled.

Ack! I'm calling my mother. She's probably not even home, but I'll call anyway. Why didn't I hear about this sooner? :(

Worst thing that could happen would be ash covering any nearby towns, which are pretty far away from the mountain. There's not much surrounding it so any magma wouldnt be a problem. But I read in the paper today that ash going up into the atmosphere might cause a harsher winter for us :(

It didn't errupt during my life time, but my parents said that ash came up here to Alberta, though it was light.
I find it rather upsetting that some people are taking this as such a joke.
It's a big deal when a volcano errupts anywhere.
I've been to Pompeii, yeah... sure, they didn't have the technology that we have today, but i've seen the ash covered bodies, and the damage that was done. That was a thriving civillization, and it's gone now. Utterly destroyed.
It happened in the early twentieth century as well.
A volcanic island had it's volcano errupt, wiped out everyone on the island (30000 people), and a species of giant rice rat (one of the few species to not be wiped out by the hand of humans in our written history).
There are volcanos located all throughout the mountain ranges in North America, and in Europe. This is hardly a laughing matter.

I'd love to see something like that. Volcanos have always fascinated me, O loved it when I went to Pompey to see the ruins, watching it erupt would be even better!

I'm very curious to see how far the ash and such will go. A while ago (2 or 3 years by now, I guess) there were fires up in New York (or possibly canada,I forget) but the air around here was definately filled with soot and ash and all that good stuff. (I'm in Southern Pennsylvania)

The volcano on the island of Hawaii (I think it's Kauna Lea) was also having tremors.
