ONE question for Adobe Photoshop users! Avatar HELP!

How do you do a normal outline for a picture? I just want a black outline for the avatar. Thx.

I use the pencil tool at 1 pixel, drawing it by hand. To make straight lines, hold down the shift button while you draw.
Do it on a separate layer to keep things neat.

I either do what vkceankraz has already suggested and explained or I copy the picture over into Paint, draw the outline and then transfer it back to Photoshop

can't you just draw a vector preset shape? That's how its done in psp8 though...

Thinking about it now, another way you could draw outlines would be to select the entire image with the exception of a 1 pixel (or whatever size border you want) space around the edges. From there Inverse the selection so only where you want the border is selected and then get a new layer and just use the Paint bucket filler to colour the selection in.

As I don't usually use cutouts and the like, simply making a square or rectangular graphic, I tend to just select the entire image, go to Edit>Stroke, select 'inside', choose whatever colour I want the border to be, click OK, abracadabra, border.

If its a square or rectangular av or sig, say I want a 2 pixel border, I make the canvas 4 pixels smaller than what I want for a finished piece. When I finish with the image aea, I change the canvas size to what I want the final to be, keeping the image centered. I then create a new layer under the rest and fill it with my border color. It sounds complicated, but if you do it a couple times its very easy and quick. The only hard part is you have to plan ahead for it and it doesnt work for cutouts.

Yes, you could. As you can see, there are many ways to do it. I prefer spending the 15 seconds it takes to draw a one pixel border.

if i have curly corners i do the following, select the picture (without the corners), edit>stroke>inside and then invert the selection (shift+ctrl+i), edit>stroke>outside so that the lines in the corners appear a little thicker...

Make a new layer, do use the select (Square box) and select all of it, then do edit->stroke->inside->select a width and color.. I usually use black and 2px for sigs...
