I believe they're taken from the Neo dictionary, i.e. the same one used for games such as Eliv Thade. That dictionary has pretty much all normal words in it, so I guess any old word could be picked as word of the day :)

'Hi' itself has no significant connection to neopets, but the word does exist in neopia so it is eligible to be the word of the day.

Theres a thing where you can submit a word for word of the day, so it probably just selects one at random, which would account for the spelling mistakes!

I don't think it has to do anyhting with neo. Just a random word works

Well supposedly when this started, they mentioned if you put the word of the day in something like Storytelling or the Caption Contest you would get a prize. I never heard it happening so I suppose that it's useless. ;)

I suppose "hi" could also be related to that random event where a poogle (or something) hops up and says "Hi!" :P I hate that one..
