Oh, it does? So can we find out the person's number through *67?

As I just said in my EDIT above....

Quote:
Call the operator and find the option to trace the number.
My mom thinks it is *65.
It has an option to contact the police.

That is the only way to find it through *67.

Seems annoying, you could stop ansering the phone for a while, and maybe they'll just give up after a while, or if it persist then changing your number mite be a measure that you could take.

We have been doing that. And they just called right now and left a stupid indian song on our answering machine. I have unplugged my answering machine and deleted the message.

We called the operator before and they connected us to the police. But seeing as the number may be uncovered, I'll try.

Can you get Anonymous Call Rejection? Whenever someone calls from a Private number, they hear a message saying that they have to make their number available in order to reach you.
Or have you tried talking to the caller? Sometimes, if you loudly demand "Who is this?" they'll be surprised into answering.

I'm going to ask my dad to do that.

The police recommend not doing that as they'll call even more.

We got about 5 witheld number calls yesterday, from one of those companys trying to sell you things. What we did is we didn't say anything into the phone and they just hung up. =)

Thanks for the help jelly, but my mom called our local phone provider and they said the only way to block a call or to block incoming call is if we know the number. Which is stupid. Therefore, I have to live with it until they get tired of calling.

For starters, making harrassing phone calls is a misdemeanor, and can result in up to a year in jail, depending on your local laws. However, if it turns out this person is making these phone calls to intimidate you because you are Muslim (which seems likely, but because I don't know all of the details, I'm unsure), then it qualifies as a hate crime under most Canadian and US laws, and becomes a felony, usually punishable by up to 10 years in prison; again, this depends on local laws. If it's coming from another state or province, then federal laws apply, and punishment is more severe.

One note, that's a fairly simple thing to do: You have two phones in the house, on the same line, right?

The next time the phone rings, have each of your parents get the phone. Have your father answer it, and your mother stay silent. If it's the prankster again, have your father say, "Operator, this is the call. Can you trace it?" This implies that you've got a trace put on the phone, and that the person will usually hang up. If the person doesn't hang up immediately, have your mother say, "I'm tracing, sir. I have an area code now." You may have to do this a couple of times.

You can also have the telephone company put a "trap" on your line, which can trace even *67'd calls. You'll have to keep a call log over the next two weeks, though.

Thank you for the details Shapu, they're very useful. I'll try and get my parents to do what you mentioned and if not, I'll ask the phone company to trap our line and trace the *67'd calls.

Follow Shapu's advice. It's what I would do.

I'm really sorry that there are such intolerant and hateful people doing this to you. If you need to talk, my inbox is empty. :) I hope you catch the people doing this.

Sounds like someone is trying to disturb you or something. Probably some idiot who does it for a living, beh, that really must be scary, I suggest trying the police station again, and see if they can help.

I think you should do what Shapu did.

There is a very nice link here:

https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx

I think you will find it usefull ;)

I need a set :P

Wow, your police system really sucks if they're not doing anything for ya. When someone was prank calling our house, we called the police, they traced the call, found out where it came from, started investigating it, and I guess that's what scared 'em off.

Of course, I think I might've stopped 'em, too. That person was one of my PPT friends and didn't even realize he called my house until I told him... XD

Sucks to hear you have to live with that. :(

Thanks everyone for the support. They have only called three times today which is low. However, if they call again today, I think we might have to resort to the police. This is ridiculous.

I just want to say I feel sorry for you. And I also feel sorry for some pathetic loser who has to resort to cruel jokes such as this for entertainment. I mean, don't they have a life? The police HAVE to have some way to trace it! I mean, there just HAS to be SOME way!!!
Then again, you could just pick up the phone and yell POKEMON...Ah, sorry. I know, this is serious. Best of luck with getting those stupid calls to stop.

What you do is call up the phone company. They'll track the calls for you.

Hold onto your seats people... the SL is back.
