Well be as insane as it is, coke bottles (made of glass) are sold there. I always drank them at our after school club and bought some for home. They're common.

I saw them when I was in Denmark (for a day) too...but hey, take it from the guy (I mean Hunter here) who actually resides in Denmark. :P

Well, I didn't know that. However, I wasn't lying. I saw in grocery stores glass bottles and I used to drink glass bottles of coke all the time.

Whoa, thank you everyone! This has been super duper helpful! I'm sorry that I wasn't very clear, or exact with what I wanted. If you wanted something more precise, look at my other thread, it has some questions there. Again, thank you muchly!

Hi, I'm new around these here parts, so I'm not quite sure how these forums work. Anyways.... I was hoping that you guys could help me with something! I'm working on an article for Journalism about Teens around the world. Except it's really hard to find a lot of info that would make for a good article! So if you're a teenager that lives anywhere other than the US or Canada, or at least know some interesting facts about a particular country, please please PLEASE tell me some interesting facts about how you and your friends live and/or about your country.

Some things that I'm looking for are:
What is popular (aka, fads)?
What do you do for fun?
What's school like (does everyone go to a school that has uniforms, etc)? What foods do you eat?
What kind of delicacies are there?
What's the weather like?
What kind of music does everyone listen (or the majority)/ what bands are popular?
What do you wear?

If you have any other info that you'd like to share, please do, since it would be really appreciated. Thank you everyone! *hugs*

SaphEdit: Edited your post from the other thread in, to make sure everyone sees it.

Those are a bit more uncommon those days. They mostly sell us plastic 0.5L bottles now.

What's school like (does everyone go to a school that has uniforms, etc)? What foods do you eat?
As much freedom as possible. There's a McDonalds within walking distance from most schools (+cafeteria food -- sandwiches, fruits, pizza, cakes, frites, pepsi-related products).
What's the weather like?
Rather gray -- you're very lucky if it doesn't rain. It doesn't completely freeze in the winter, so occassional snow in february is fun.

In England

What is popular (aka, fads)?

Errr...at the moment...err.....camera phones?
What do you do for fun?
Go online, hang around with my friends doing amusing things.
What's school like (does everyone go to a school that has uniforms, etc)?
Uniform- Tie, blazer, shirt, trousers. The school dinners are alright, a lot of them are home cooked, but the prices are far too high. The teachers are either fun or obnoxious or strict.
What foods do you eat?
Ocassional junk food, some 'healthy' microwave meals and then some home cooked meals; meat, pasta etc.
What kind of delicacies are there?
Chips, cheese and gravy?
What's the weather like?
Crap. Haha. Err, this year it was summery and hot in April then it got cold the rest of the year. And windy. And rainy.
What kind of music does everyone listen (or the majority)/ what bands are popular?
Depends who you are. If you look at the singles chart, which, let's be honest, is funded almost entirely by teenagers :P then it'd have to be err....'R&B' and rap.
What do you wear?
Personally, jeans, t-shirts, sweaters. Surf brands especially, for no apparent reason, lol.

lol if you wanted to pm me questions more specific, i'ld be glad to help. i'm a WAian :P and yes, every school, be it public or private, generally has a uniform, public are more lax about it, and i've been to both, and i would have to say fads are more obvious clothing wise in public schools, because you can get away with so much more. but we have the general, goths, punks ect groups, but people generally don't go to extremes, we only have 3 people who you would look at and go: punk, goth ect. others generally don't go to that.

i will say, surfer culture would have to be the dominant culture type in my school, yet my best friend in another private school, hers is dominated by the goth/yuppie kind. and when i say dominate, i mean, there are ALOT of them :P

camera phones are popular right now as well, although some schools have them banned, because of the whole blackmailing thing. we still have them :P

because our school is walking distance to city shoppoing area, most girls, eith go home, or go out shopping :)

uniform: green shapeless sack. disgusting BRIGHT green. irish green? yes, thats the one. founded by irish nuns.. so i guess thats the reason. thats summer uniform. winter is nicer, we have a nicer uniform, as long as you tuck the collar in. otherwise its refered to as the toilet bowl collar, its a puritan collar officially, but um needless to say, its not extremely popular amongst alot of people :P

food: HUGE craze going round: fruit drinks, like wheatgrass, ect. you can't walk 10m in city without spotting one. outrageous. my favorite is mango tango, with has mango, apple juice, low fat yogurt or fruit sorbet and its lovely and cold and yum :P very expensive habit though :P

delecaies? fish and chips :P lol jk, most kids don't know how to eat that stuff. i have a family which does like going out to wineries and stuff so i do know, but most people think those kind of things are odd.

weather: hot and humid right now. disgusting weather. and you can always tell when it rains, its the days i don't pack the umbrella, and it does it when i have to go between classes :P freaky but true :P

music? um pop and stuff, things like jessica simpson, and evanescence *i know they aren't pop, but most people seem to like them, a couple hate them beyond believe but hey*

what do i wear? surf stuff has to be what i wear for casual. and i don't wear anything that shows too much skin, i'm a huge prude. but friends? lets see, one wears nothing but designer, granted shes a fashion freak to say it lightly, but who pays $400 for a pair of glasses and calls it cheap? *they were dior btw* most people will wear surf stuff, although you have a few goths, and then the smart type, who wouldn't be seen dead in jeans, :P you know. but surf dominates everywhere you go amongst teens :P

hope thats helpful, need further info, just pm me,and there are a bunch of other aussies hanging around as well :) good luck :)

If you see my sanity, get it to give me a call.

Life in Israel

What is popular (aka, fads)? Facial and ear piercings seem to be popular now... The whole 'punk' fashion is comming in.

What's school like?
Ok... So elementry schools are within a walking distance. There are about 50 kids in a grade. There are 10-25 minute breaks inbetween every 2 classes. School usually begins at 8am, and ends at a different time, ranging between 12:30 to 2:10. Also, throughout the entire 8 years you have the same class.
Highschool: There is no highschool in my area, so I have to take a (school) bus everyday. School begins at a different time each day ( ranging between 8:00 am, to 11:25 am), and ends at different times aswell ( anywhere from 12:30 to 3:10).
There are 5-25 minute breaks between each class.
When a teacher enters a room, everyone must stand up.
You have the same kids in your class all year long.
Here, unlike in the US, the kids stay in the classroom, and the teachers come to the room to teach every hour.
Also you call the teachers by they're first name.

What foods do you eat? I don't eat Israeli food, but most Israeli food is made from meat. And then theres the famous Pita and Humus.

What's the weather like? Its a desert country, so almost always hot. In the winter is not *too* cold, not coat required, but it does rain often.
What kind of music does everyone listen what bands are popular? Israeli rap mainly. Alot of party/dance music. Very few listen to rock, or music that you'd see on TRL.
What do you wear? Me - Skate/surf clothes... Brand names like Dickies, etnies, vans. ( This stuff is considered expsensive here :P)
Everyone else - Very tight jeans, shirts that are to small, basicly very slutty ( both girls and boys). Must people buy fake designer clothes... Shhh...

ETC
Almost everything is within a walking distance... From the age 8 you can already go around town by yourself.
Cellphones - Everyone has them. My brothers whos only 8 already got one.
I'm on my 3rd cell... The more complex the better :P ( Color, camera, internet connection).
Everywhere you go, you have to be checked by guards... Even if its at a local supermarket ( Because of the arab bombers), there even have them on public busses.

Thats all I can think of... If you want to know anything else let me know.

Here's something interesting: Life of a teenager in Malaysia. The following information is based purely on my experiences here.

What is popular (aka, fads)?
Well, the usuals. In my school handphones seem to be really "in" right now, and sadly a few people judge a person's "coolness" by the type of handphone they have. Other than that, video games and consoles are also "in", and if you have those, you're considered someone "respectable" and worth having a deep conversation about them [the games and console] with. XD

What do you do for fun?
Play video games! ^_^ But that's just me. Some people like to hang out at malls, but others prefer to play video games, some sports like basketball and badminton, and staying indoors [Internet, computer games, stuff]. I prefer to stay indoors. =P

What's school like (does everyone go to a school that has uniforms, etc)?
Almost all the schools here have uniforms which are the same in ALMOST EVERY SCHOOL, except for a few private/international schools. Schools here are divided into two major categories: Primary [ages 7-12] and Secondary school [ages 13-17]. If you want I can describe the uniforms for primary and secondary school, but only if you request for it, as I'm feeling a bit lazy at the moment. =P Schools start at almost the same time, about 7.30 in morning [some start at 7.45] but may dismiss at different times, usually at 1, but sometimes as late as 2, depending on the school. There are three major government exams throughout the entire school life of a student, one to be taken at the age of 12 [Primary 6], one at 15 [Form 3], and one at 17 [Form 5]. More info on exams here on request. Some students are a year younger than the rest, because they passed a special test taken in Primary 3 [9 years old] which allows them to skip a year. There is no lunch break, unless the school has afternoon classes which spans through the afternoon. There is, however, a 20 minute recess break, usually around 10.

What foods do you eat?
Just about anything! ^_^ The food here in the state/region of Malaysia I'm living in is a bit limited, in my opinion. Sure, we do have McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut and a few other places to eat here, but if I want to eat something more exotic, like sushi, I'll have to go all the way to Kuala Lumpur, the capital city, across the peninsular Malaysia [45 minutes by plane =P] as the state which I'm living is a little...backward, not as modern as Kuala Lumpur. The majority of the population in the state I'm living in are Muslims, so pork isn't served in most places. I personally don't mind, as I don't really like pork.

What kind of delicacies are there?
All those junk food, snacks, and candy you can find in supermarkets. But if you mean delicacies which are Malaysia-exclusive, then I must say some of the tropical, local fruits which are only available during certain times of the year. There are some really delicious tradisional, local, Malay cakes, too. ^_^

What's the weather like?
Malaysia is located near the equator [if that's the name for the middle line] so it NEVER snows, and the difference of time between day and night is always the same. It's sunny and sometimes rainy [during monsoon seasons] all year long. In the state which I'm living in [North-East of peninsular] the monsoon season runs from November till March. So that means heavy rains all through November till December almost everyday, and moderate rains from January till February and fades away in March.

What kind of music does everyone listen (or the majority)/ what bands are popular?
Hiphop and rap is really becoming the trend here. Pop is also quite popular, but not as popular as hiphop and rap. Some people have developed an interest for breakdancing. A few bands/singers that are popular, besides certain Malaysian artistes are Eminem, Linkin Park, D12, certain boy bands, Christina Aguilera, and Simple Plan.

What do you wear?
My school uniform. =P Lol, when I'm not at school, then I'm usually wearing jeans/three quarter pants and a T-shirt. I don't wear jackets unless I'm going to someplace which is colder [the highlands tend to be colder as it is higher off from sea level]

I hope you found it helpful. Oh, and I apologize if it was too long and made you read all that. ^_^

LIFE OF A TEENAGER IN SCOTLAND!!!!Well, it's boring. There are 3 sort of "Factions". The Neds (talk in slang and drink and wear trackies and go "YOL'T MAN!!!" all the time. Check the Internet for more info), the Skaters/Mosher/Goth alliance and the Geeks. Then there are those left over who are the minority. Life is abysmal. It always rains. It's always cold.

Actually, you forgot the trendys, and the wannabe skaters and wannabe goths. Infact, if you look closer, there's many different groups (you just don't notice them as much in the midst of trackies and hoop earings). I swear that one giant evil ned started this whole thing and threatened to 'hook' anyone who didn't wear burbery.

:roflol: :roflol:

Anyway, to answer your survey:
What is popular (aka, fads): not really any I can think of right now although tamagotchi's are coming back, I guess they would count
What do you do for fun? neopets, there isn't much to do around here
What's school like (does everyone go to a school that has uniforms, etc)? my school has uniform (black jumper, black trousers, white shirt and the school tie) Classes are around 25-30 pupils (although mine are a lot smaller, consisting of about 5-10 people, since I'm in 6th year now)
What foods do you eat? same as in the US really, I went there on holiday and the food was pretty much the same.
What kind of delicacies are there? Haggis (yuck!), suppose neeps and tatties would count (which is turnip and potatoes I think) but I wouldn't call them 'delacacies'!
What's the weather like? Rain, wind, cold
What kind of music does everyone listen (or the majority)/ what bands are popular? club music is big (I hate it!) and a lot of rock/punk bands are big as well.
What do you wear? jeans and tshirts and that's about it.
(I live in Scotland by the way, just in case you wanted to know!)

From Italy (please note that I'm not really up-to-date because I live behind a computer screen)

What is popular (aka, fads)? Jeans and t-shirt that leave your stomach uncovered (I don't know the exact name in english, hope you get the idea)
What do you do for fun? Go around with friends and listen to music
What's school like (does everyone go to a school that has uniforms, etc)? No, there's no uniform. We don't get to choose classes, just the type of school. Then everyone has got the same subjects (blah, and in my school there's latin...)
What foods do you eat? Pasta and rice everyday. Nothing else particular
What kind of delicacies are there? My mom's chocolate cake!! Honestly I don't know, every region has got its own
What's the weather like? Not really so sunny as one may think. It's kinda cloudy and rainy now.
What kind of music does everyone listen (or the majority)/ what bands are popular? I don't have idea. I don't listen to music (oh yeah, I'm asocial)
What do you wear? Jeans... t-shirts... the usual things

I just hope it helps. And this was my 200th post

hey, im up for any kind of test.

(this is from north england AKA ol blighty to the informed locals)

What is popular (aka, fads)?
piercings, clothing that shows just a tad bit too much flesh, trench coats.

What do you do for fun?
i play warhammer, magic the gathering, maim things on computer games, read quite a bit (more than is healthy im sure)

What's school like (does everyone go to a school that has uniforms, etc)?
finished school (did have uniforms there, black trousers a blazer and tie)
at college there is no uniform, but people seem to prefer darker colours at the moment.

What foods do you eat?
spicy...and basicly whatever happens to be in the cupboard at the time that hunger hits me.

What kind of delicacies are there?
this is derbyshire, we got bakewell tarts and thats about your lot.

What's the weather like?
we dont get weather, i live under that little black line that seperates the weather patterns.
(seriously, its england, we get it all due to some obscure currant and a couple dozen islands weirding up our climate)

What kind of music does everyone listen (or the majority)/ what bands
are popular?
old is in (mettallica, iron maiden) new rock is too (green day, 36 crazy fists, chimaira etc)
personally i like whatever happens to happy up that little reptilian part of my brain (which usually have a heavy beat, and no accoustic guitars, that squeeky squeeky thing they do gets right on my nerves)

What do you wear?
whatever i happened to have put on, but usually i wear my jacket or coat (no matter the weather, im always cold without them)
and a tendancy to darker colours (bright colours give me headaches, posibly because of the awful damage ive done to my right eye, a sliver of metal and a bit of plastic are lodged in behind it -headaches all year round, so i waer tinted glasses -it reduces them.

Okie dokie: Finland!

What is popular (aka, fads)? Anything that resembled what people wore in the 80's

What do you do for fun? I myself am pretty much a loner, therefore I sit mostly at home. Others go out to parties, doscos and such though.

What's school like (does everyone go to a school that has uniforms, etc)? My school in Finland is quite small. We do not wear uniforms of any kind... umm... yeah.

What foods do you eat? Quite a lot :P The usual you can get anywhere of course (pizza, hamburgers, different pastas), also some fish, different kinds of beef and sauces, meatballs etc. (the usual meats + reindeer- and elkmeat) . We seldomly have anything fried, instead we eat boiled potatoes or for example rice.

What kind of delicacies are there? Er... I have no clue actually.

What's the weather like? Right now it is a bit chilly (0-10*C) and with both sunny and rainy weather.

What kind of music does everyone listen (or the majority)/ what bands are popular? A lot of people like heavy metal, rock, punk etc. Of course many like the mainstream pop etc. as well. Popular band could be for example The Rasmus, Maroon 5, HIM, Nightwish etc.

What do you wear? Usually I wear quite regular pants (jeans etc.) with a t-shirt or top of some sort and a sweater with long sleeves on top of this.

Living in an Illinois town a few hours away from Chicago

Occupation:: 14 years of age; freshman in highschool.

What is popular (aka, fads)?- Livestrong cancer bracelets, Nike and Finishline similar rubber-band style bracelets. MINOR "gothic" wear- as in like a skull bracelet, black arm bands, Nirvana shirts. University of Illinois wear- jackets, shirts, anything- U of I is only about a half an hour away from our school and their football games are awesome.

What do most people in my area do for fun?- Go to the mall, go to eachother's houses, get high, go walking with friends, have fights while other people get to watch.

What's school like?- Boring. People hate the classes, but love being able to see their friends. Most students don't pay attention in class, but still end up getting decent grades. Seniors are top of the chain. Everyone respects them, even the "nerdy" seniors. Oh, and no uniforms.

What foods do you eat?- All kinds. What do I like? Chicken quesodillias, pepperoni pizza, CANDY/CHOCOLATE, Chex mix, ice, steak, ribs, fried chicken (as in KFC like)
What don't I like? Most sorts of sea food, mashed potatoes, olives.
Decent foods? Cactus, meat loaf, chicken (non-fried), salad.

What kind of delicacies are there?- Hmm... not sure on that one. Don't think we really have any.

What's the weather like?- Depends on the season. Right now it's mostly cool+. (As in cold, yet not very.) Rain common, and enjoyed by my age group.

What kind of music does everyone listen to?- Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, AFI, rap/pop modern music, country.

What do you wear?- I answered this mostly earlier, but me personally? At the moment I'm wearing dark blue jeans (light blue jeans are ugly), and a red "Adidas" hoodie. Would this count jewelry, too? A black band with a once-silver clasp on my left arm that I always wear because it was gift. On my right arm, a black and an orange bracelet twined together to make one bracelet with two lines, one above the other with a fair ammount of spacing in between, and the spot where they're wound around eachother meeting in the middle. Also on my right arm is a bracelet with skulls lined all around it. All 3 (or 4 technically) of these bracelets were given as gifts, acrually. I wear my glasses constantly, which are mostly normal with a light bronze frame.
