Heh, I just got the part of this mayor in one of my school plays, the Pied Piper. The -fat- mayor. ^.^

I'm really looking forward to it, we've got a really cool slide that I'm planning to go on (it's for the rats to be washed away in) and my part is one of the main roles.

But does anyone have any tips for learning lines? T'would be appriciated seeing as most things go in one ear, out the other!

Thanks! :D

Well done you! That slide thing sounds well fun!

I act quite a lot too and the only tips I can give you for learning lines is practice! The more you go over them and act them out, the more you'll remember them. Put actions and gestures with the words straight away so if you don't remember the line, at least you'll remember the gesture and that will jog your memory. Hope this helps!

It sounds pretty basic but just act and say the lines to yourself infront of a mirror, or if you are confident, your family.

I just practice lines by saying them over and over and over. I guess that's the best advice I can give. :)

Repitition is the best way to go. You can read them over and over until they are in your head, bit by bit. Writing them out over and over helps as well. If you can get friends or family to help you recite them, that would be good. I had a friend who would record herself saying them and have someone else say the lines that come before and after. Then when she would hang out in her room, drive somewhere, go jogging, she would listen to them and recite along. It's just like learning the words to a song, but it's your lines. They just come automatically after a bit.

Try and make a memorable routine to go with your lines. So that your actions are linked with your words, so you know they go together. Other than that, just keep repeating them with a partner.

When I need to memorize my lines, I just repeat them over and over out loud. It helps, believe me. ^__^

Going over them with a friend helps, I read the lines of other parts while my friend was sayin his. It worked pretty good. He did great in the play.

Have your family or a friend read all the other parts - works like a charm!

Siggy under construction.

Cool! Good luck to you, fellow thespian! Hehehe.

I would help you memorize lines, but I'm the kind of person who absorbs things as I read them. I read a line twice, and it's memorized. So I haven't really had experience with learning lines, if you know what I mean.

Well, we're making it a musical, I think, and I have quite a few songs.

A musical? Excellent! Just make a tape and sing along until you have it. ;)

Btw, which musical are you doing?

Musicals should be even easier, because you got the music to help you along with the lyrics.
