My school has a small string orchestra which I play violin for, and I wanted to know if anyone on PPT plays strings.

I sometimes want to go steal the cello from Jorje, our celloist, but resist. I once traded instruments with a viola player for the day... wasn't as sad-sounding as I thought it would be. Pity. So I'm sticking with violin.

I play Second, keeping in mind that our orchestra typically has three parts for most songs. I've been doing really well in tests lately though - I beat a First for fourth seat. So I occasionally get first music.

Do your instruments have names? Mine's Mercutio The Melancholy.

I used to play the violin. I played for less than a year since the msuic program got cut. i could only play one song, the charlie brown christmas song, i love that song. :P

I used to pretend I played the violin in grade 5. I used to boast about it [Even though it was a lie] to get attention. I remember the teacher even asking me, "Oh Ammer, why don't you bring your violin to school?" and I said, "Heh, I won't be allowed," and slowly lowered my head.

I never lied about playing a violin again.

Did you guys know I play the piano?

I play the piano (Grade 10 RCM exam coming up in January), and I used to play the violin several years ago (took Grade 1 RCM, but went up to Grade 4).

I played violin from grades 2-12. Made it to First (3rd or 4th chair... second stand reguardless). Currently my violin is at my parent's house (with my mother's and sister's). I figured it's safer there safer with 4 kids. Plus, when she took it, we had a much smaller apt instead of our house now. And no, I never named my violin. ;)

I do. ^^ I play violin fairly well, and I can play a tiny bit of acoutsic guitar. I haven't played either in a while though.

I named my violin Zeke. xP

Funny, I think our electric base and string base player named his electric base Zeke too.
