It is an odd artical, but interesting. I don't think we can live that long, but longer(ie: people think living to 100 is amazing now, maybe in 20 years people will think living to 150 is like what living to 100 now.)

theoreticly we could become immortal with the right advancments.
the only thing stopping us now is cellular decay, find a way to regenerate and we become unstopable.
actually a certain species of turtle CANNOT die from old age.
but then again the oldest is 200-odd, why?
disease tends to adapt.

but then again they did just make a cyborg out of a cloned mouse brain and a remote control aeroplane (im kidding you not!) so anythings possible.

we are the borg, you biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own

1000!?!?! HA! Maybe 150 with in 50 years and then 200 with in 200 years. There will soon be to many people on this Earth and that is NOT good. I say humans have about 400 years left after looking at natural disaster and nuclear war. Sad, isn't it?

your being about 350 years too conservative with that estimate.
2070, thats when our natural resources run out, thats when we turn against eachother.
that is when after years of genetic alteration i unleash my army of super clones...
space is our only hope now.

How exactly do you know that for a fact?

its an educated estimate made by people who do algebra in their sleep for fun (i do it awake)

and for the record global warmings a load of rubbish, the tempreture has fluctuated every year in recorded history, why do they suddenly think it wont just level off like it has done everytime in recorded history, and then in paeleometeorlogical history.

I think Stephen Hawking said on a radio program that humans will be shoulder-to-shoulder in 2050, but we'd have established other places to live by then.

Live to be a 1,000? I don't think that's going to happen. Not any time soon at least. Besides, who would want to live that long? Eugh, it'd be horrible.

I'm for it, as long as it doesn't mean complete immortality. Everyone has to die someday in my beliefs. True, the world would become vastly overpopulated, but I've been hearing a few things about colinzing the moon, so maybe that'll come around in time to save us from that.

As for natural resource depletion, I've heard that it'll come very soon. The thing I heard about dealt with lightbulbs. Apparantly we only have enough tungsten (the filament) to last another 50 years or so. Not that lightbulbs are one of the bigger problems, but it exists. We could mine the moon and various asteriods for what we need, and for energy we can develop fuel cells (which I've heard are planned out).

Living to be 1000... I'd never really thought of that. It'd be weird... I bet as soon as they perfect it they'll go for 2000, then 3000, etc. I'd rather shoot myself rather than live that long personally.

Personally, I would not want to live more than say.. 100 years max, at least when I'm on this planet.

Anyway, for the moment doctors estimate that our bodies are built to last aprox. 140-150 years, of course we do not last that long for the time being due to lots of diseases etc.

I wouldn't mind living to 1000...there'd be more time to do things, more time to make a difference.

I think its peposterous to think of ever wanting to die, if you had good health and hit your 1000th birthday would suddenly say: "You know what, I lived a long time, I'm bored, I think I wanna die now." That doesn't even make sense. The only reason you should want to die is if your surrounded by suffering, stress, are so old and decrepate you just want your suffering to end etc.
God said back in Noah's day that he has cut mans lifespan to that of only 120 and so far that seems true because I don't anyones lived passed that age in modern times.

But anyway, I have to agree with sektekh. Within a 100 years or so man will have depleted his resources and blow eachother to bits. Were all pretty much doomed to put in short, this is the golden days of humankind at the moment you can say because they aint gonna last forever. Unless we magically tap into some deep resource of ultimate knowledge and technology and whisk ourselves into parts of the universe unknown, but thats nearly impossible. And isn't going to happen in such a short period of time.

Same here.

I really have no idea at all what the future holds, but I do know God will guide me through it. And that the chances of making it to one thousand years old is very slim.
