The video only shows a few seconds after she lypsynched. But she seemed to have "fun" with her microphone stand.

My problem is not that she can't sing.

Heaven knows there are some people with horrible voices that I would pay good money to see. Neil Young and Bob Dylan's influence on music is huge and their voice is less than Royal Academy trained.

My problem is her total absence of talent.
-she can't play her own instrument
-she wasn't dancing, simply the occasional gyration, microphone straddle and head turn to hide mouth movements
-she doesn't write her own music
-she can't sing without a computer altering her own voice, giving her electronic talent

What good is she? (here's where I get mildly crude, feel free to skip ahead)

Have we gotten to the point where we can throw anything with boobs on stage and be impressed by that talent?

Sure maybe we're coming down on her a little too hard. Maybe its the mommies and daddies who tell their kids that these are the people we should respect and imitate that are the problem.

Lindsay does write her own songs. She co-wrote "Rumors".

I've come to expect this from a lot of the pop singers/bands of today.

Not like half these singers have talent in either profession...
I just stay away from those kinds of people.

Know why I don't get? Why when Ashlee lipsynched everyone made a HUGE deal about it but now that Lindsay has done it aswell its like no one noticed...or am I just not watching the right news channels

It's probably because it didn't happen in the same way. Ashlee was on Saturday Night Live which has a larger audience than Good Morning America, and the whole point of it is that the performances are live. Good Morning America is simply a morning news show. It's live, like all news shows, but the main focus of the show isn't on that it's live. Lindsay Lohan's performance was just a small part of the program. Whereas Ashlee Simpson's performance was a main part of Saturday Night Live, she was the musical guest.
Here's the clencher. The way things went down. Ashlee's fiasco was utterly hilarious. She went on to perform her second song, but the music (and her voice) from the first performance were playing when she opened her mouth. If they'd hurried and switched to the correct song (prerecorded and lip synched or not) she could have shrugged it off and continued. But she panicked. She did her strange little dance (which made it so much more worse) and then slinked off of the stage.
Whereas with Linday, it didn't become blatantly obvious that she was lipsynching until about halfway through the song. But she still performed the whole song. If you weren't paying close attention, you wouldn't have noticed it at all. From watching it, you can kind of tell that Lindsay knew she'd messed up, and that people could probably tell she was lipsynching. But she didn't choke. She stayed and finished the song. If she'd freaked out and walked off stage, then people probably would be talking about it more.
I'm gonna repeat something I mentioned on the Ashlee thread. Lipsynching, even during live performances is nothing new. When people like Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez do it, it's expected of them. They're not fooling anyone, and they know it. And no one cares. They don't go around claiming not to lipsynch. They lipsynch, and they do it well. Their audiences, even at concerts, don't feel cheated. Because it's what's expected.
Lindsay Lohan lipsynched, and did a horrible job of it. Ashlee Simpson lipsynched, and was caught due to a technical error, her tape wasn't playing the right song.
If, for example, Britney Spears were faced with either of these situations... if she'd screwed up in the way Lindsay did, no one would care. If a technical error messed her up like with Ashlee, she'd shrug it off and continue.
So yea, the reason people made a bigger deal about Ashlee, was because it was so much more obvious. And come on, her little dance didn't help matters at all. The dance made it that much more easy to make fun of her.

Even though I'm not a fan of Ashlee Simpson that much, she did try and make up for her lypsyncing and she did have acid reflux. Today before I left for the airport to drop my dad off, I saw her show and it was the second episode and the doctor said she had acid reflux. This would affect her perfomances to the point where she can't sing. And this was when she creating her album, long before the SNL incident. So, we know she did have a problem with her voice. And I give her props for trying to get back on SNL to sing again and singing live whenever she can.

That is true. That is wrong which doesn't make her any better than Lindsay, but at least we know her reason for lypsyncing and it was a valid one -- Well to me at least.

Yeah, if they lipsynch for a good reason, like being sick, then I don't really mind.
Just don't try to blame someone else if you mess up.

Co-wrote? Or just changed a lyric here and there? Come on Ammer, don't be so naive. If an "artist" co-writes one song, then I wouldn't class that as writing their own material. To me, to write music, you've got to have some basic knowledge of music.

It makes me angry to think that people idolize these "stars". There are people out there with more talent in their little toe nail than people like Ashlee Simpson but never make it in the industry because they refuse to be manufactured. Drives me mad.
