School has started and so did the tests, homework and all that other stuff. My first real finals are coming up in two weeks and all the teachers are already trying to prepare us for them. Its crazy.

I hate this, I don't know how I'm ever going to study for all of that if I can't even organize my homework time. I'm quite lazy when it comes to that stuff and can never get myself to do it and when I finally realise that I need to study, its usually really late and I'm falling asleep. I'm trying but its not working, I get distructed(sp?) so easily, like right now, I should be doing homework but I can't get myself to do it.

Does anyone have any tips for studying for the finals and not doing homework late? I don't want to get a horrible grade because I started studying late like I always do, I want to change that habit.

I'm a freshman in high school btw (9th grade)

Thanks

This could sound horrible but...

Your 9th grade finals DO NOT MATTER... much....

Yes, you should study during the semester
Yes, you should study for your exams
And yes, you should try your best

But don't freak out about them. It really is not worth it. You will have finals again in June (or around there anyway) and you'll know what to expect by then. Wait for gr 11 and gr 12 exams to really start freaking out on :D .

I do recommend trying to come up with some sort of schedule though, like starting homework/studying no later than 8pm every night. You just need to find a time that works for you. For some people, its late (like me,, I studied for my first yr uni exams mostly from 6pm to midnight-two am) and others would rather work from after school til 8pm when the good TV shows come on.

Good luck!

I find it that getting into bed earlier and bringing a few books/notebooks with you is easier. Thats what I do, study under the lamp, all snuggled up with my book(s) on the pillow...

Argh, 9th grade midterms in two weeks for me...I'm the only freshman not freaking out about them...

Honestly. Just prepare yourself, try your best, don't sweat it. -repeats over and over again-

Lock yourself away from PPT/AIM/MSN and distractions like that. That was my downfall.

Ah first year exams. I didn't really freak out but this is not about me.

I would finish all of my homework and projects. Study a week before your exams. It's good to refresh a bit before the day of your exam but do NOT stress. I would take a 5 minute break after 40 minutes as the brain gets overloaded at that time. Make sure your break is not longer than your study period.

Just relax and take it easy. Once they are done than you will realised you stressed over nothing.

I'm not freaking out over finals, more like the opposite. I don't feel like getting a bad grade because I didn't care and started studying late like I usually do. :P

I just took some of my finals, and I am a freshman as well.

My scores were as follows:
Algebra II Pre-Ap(I know, I'm advanced huh?)-83 Semester Average-91
World Geography PAP-83 Avg-89.5 (90)
English PAP-88 Avg-90
Biology PAP-89 Avg-91
French-85 Avg-92
Tech Systems-98 Avg-95
Orchestra-Unkown Avg-Unknown

As you can see I have (except for orchestra, as I havent had time to ask yet), I have made all A's per semester.

What kind of schedule are your finals like? Mine were two per day for four days, and 2 hours per each final. Then we got to leave school at 12:00 to go home/eat lunch/study. When I got home I relaxed after each final until 3:00 (when I usually get out of school). And then I started studying for two hours on the first final I had. Took a break for about one hour, and went back to studying for my first exam for another hour, and then started studying for my second exam for another 2 hours. I took a break and ate dinner, took a shower, and got ready to go to bed. Then I studied for whichever final I thought was the hardest for me for 30 minutes.

Although I know I couldve done better on my finals if I tried (My six-weeks averages were ONLY 92's or higher), I sort of slacked off. I advise you not to do so and just be intent on your hardest subjects. For that it was Biology and English for me. For math I did some practice problems to study as well as go over some of the formulas I had learned during the first and second six-weeks. I was lucky enough to have blow-off finalls during each day of my main finals. (Math + Tech Sys, Orch + Eng, Bio + Lunch{Free Period}, and French + WGeo).

As you can see, most of my finals I recieved B's instead of A's, and I barely made A's on my semester average. But I wasn't as diligent as I should have been as holidays were coming up and I had other things on my mind.

The best advice I can give you would be just to sit down, and ONLY focus on the subject at hand, but to not be intimidated or pressured by the thought of finals. But after I've said all this, it may not help at all because of your schools schedule for your finals. Good luck. :)

I'm a freshman in High School, my exams are at the end of next week, and I have anxiety . . . so yes, I definetly feel you. I'm going to study in a small group every day next week and am studying by myself this week. I only have four classes every day though, so four exams isn't bad.

I'm a freshman too.

I have two finals, as I have a few double blocked classes and they end in three weeks. In the rest, I just have midterms.

Darklegendary, shut off the computer. Listen to a CD you like once through to relax yourself, but only once through. Then open something you know you NEED to study, and study it.

Also, don't try and study right when you get home. Take an hour break, eat a snack, chill. Then study. Then you have the rest of the night for whatever you want to do, including sleeping. ^^

I am a senior in college. Nice thing about 400 level classes, not too many tests. Lots of papers and projects, but not many tests.

Try and get enough sleep, and have a break when you get home for an hour or so, then study, with a five minute break in each twenty minute study period.

Also, I find it hard to study at night, in articificial light, I don't know whether that's the same as anyone else, so I try and study while it's still light outside. Over here, that's really hard because it gets dark at about three in the winter and I get home at four thirty. -_-;;

9th grade finals are some what important, meaning if you slack off in your freshmen year and don't pass them you might find yourself having a harder time to catch up in your senior year. (least thats what all my teachers said O_o) If your teachers give you reviews, go over thoes every day until your test. If not, go through your textbooks and your notes. I'm a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad person when it comes to studying and I did ok on my finals (I think, we haven't gotten the resutls back on all of them yet) but just at least look over your notes and things. It helps a lot :)

Good luck to everyone who has finals coming up and I hope you pass them with flying colors :D
