What a day I've had...hubby was in a bad car wreck, and I'm stuck at home with our sick 4-year old and have no chance of getting to see him.

The hospital is going to keep him a few days at least they said. He's in the ICU for right now, they just took him to surgery to sew up a bunch of deep lacerations he has on his face.

I've been losing my mind lately, but thankfully a lot of my buds from Neopets have been kind enough to talk to me and keep me distracted so I won't lose it.

If anyone is interested, I've been putting all the news and updates on the situation on my Plushie Acara's petpage.

I just wish I could see him. It stinks the hospital is over an hour away.

It's got to be rough not being able to see him, but take what you can out of this - at least he's only getting cleaned up for deep lacerations. It could always be much worse.

EDIT: Tack on that he's coherent and able to use the phone, and it sounds to me he's going be not too much the worse for wear.

Thanks shapu. :) Yes, knowing he was talking to me was very comforting. The real pain, like you said is having to sit here knowing I can't be there with him, and not knowing just how bad things were. All I knew the first hour was he was the worst out of the three people injured.

He recently called and said he just got the chance to look in a mirror and he's pretty upset. I think he's more worried about how I will feel about his scars and his looks post-accident. Which is silly...we've been married almost 10 years and a scar or two or twenty isn't going to upset me.

I imagine they must be pretty bad though, since they were going to put him under for the sutures. But still...if all it's going to be is he walks away from this with some scars on his face, I'll be happy. I'm more worried about neck/spinal injuries etc...especially since they still haven't given us any news back about the x-rays they took.

I grew up thinking "chicks dig scars." If he's in the mood for a little humor, you might try that line...

EDIT: They probably put him under for sutures merely because of the location of the injuries. If they're around his eyes, for example, the last thing they're going to want is for him to do things like blink or twitch. Plus, facial scarring is a sore spot, so the physicians are going to want to take their time and make sure that they get everything put back together right, and local anaesthetic really only lasts 10-15 minutes.

Wow, I'm really sorry. I am happy to hear that he called you though and is doing ok. I'm sure he won't look that bad either. People always think things look worse than they actually are.

Thanks you guys. :)

Well, I'm sure tomorrow when I get to see him face-wise he'll look pretty bad and worse than he would today, but that'll be because by then he'll be all swollen, bruised, etc. :P

I don't mind though...I sort of know how he feels. When I was away for the summer a couple of years ago in the USA, I had a bad cooking accident the day after I got there and had 2nd degree burns on 75% percent of my right forearm coupled with degloving (nice medical term for the skin falling off to the floor due to the intensity of the burn, erf.) I was extremely worried about the scarring...most physicians said I'd have keloid scars (pink puffy raised ones) from the burn. To everyone's suprise, I didn't...in fact, nowadays nobody even knew I had a burn that severe, you really can't see anything. ^_^ But I was very worried how my husband would react to my injuries once I got home and he could see them. I guess he's going through the same thing right now.

In case anyone is interested in my yucky injury, here's a pic of the day after it happened, I have an "after" pic somewhere...it really does look great now, but like I said, like my hubby, I was soooo worried how my "other half" would take it.

Warning: A bit graphic. It was pretty "eew."

I'm so sorry! You both are in my prayers.

I sent you a little gift on Neopets, although it's not much.

EDIT: Excuse me, I will once it stops lagging.

Thanks. You don't need to send anything though. I appreciate the gesture as it is. :) I guess I just needed some folks to talk to about it. All of my family is back home in the USA...and the only family Erik has is his mom who is away on a trip until this weekend, so basically I've had ZERO people in reality to talk to about all this. :( It's been nice to come here and chat a bit.

Thats horrible! I hope everything turns out fine. :) Tell him not to worry about scars, I had back surgery when a few years ago and I have a scar that runs the length of my back and it's not a huge deal. I hope he feels better and can come home soon though!

scars are totally hot!

it really sounds like he'll be okay, but it does suck not being able to see him. when you see him tomorrow, tell him a bunch of strangers on a internet forum are rooting for him and hope he gets well soon! (same for your poor sick 4-yr-old, too! :( )

and here's a  for you. be strong!

*hugs* Sorry to hear that :( I hope the days fly by and you're able to see him before you realize the time has gone by.

Ya know... the older I get, the older I learn, some scars are hot.
I have one strait down the middle of my chest, and I swear, it's gotten my chest more looks then if it wasn't there.

*shrugs*

I'm glad he's talking, and I hope all goes well for you and him. Car wrecks are nasty things (hence why I don't drive). I'm sure all will work out and you know everyone heres around to talk to. *hugs*

Good luck.

I just got off the phone again...it's almost 7:30 am here and I still haven't slept a wink. Pah. -_-

The nurses say he got cut up a bit in his face, but it could have been a lot worse. Erik got to see himself in a mirror and is feeling a bit depressed. (poor fellah).

It seems the accident was a head on collision...We only have 2 lane highway over here and he was trying to pass a logging truck and didn't make it and crashed head on into another car.

His friend Tobias I thought was going to be sent home, but it now appears he's there overnight too. His girlfriend says it was just for observation though.

Not sure when he'll come home but at least I know I get to see him tomorrow. He's still in ICU but the night nurse says he's doing very well. She says they put him to sleep and sutured him up and removed the glass particles he had in his face and that he's been doing well.

Thanks again all of you for the moral support. :)

EDIT: Ugh, well, it's almost time for me to go to the hospital to get to see him. He called this morning and said he got to see the man he hit and is feeling a lot better since now he knows the man didn't have any major injuries and is being released today. They also cleaned up his bandages so he's feeling better about his face.

What DIDN'T make me feel good today is that the accident is in the newspaper today. So this morning I was able to read about it. Luckily the photo in the online version is a lot smaller and in less detail, but here it is:

Rough translation of the text as best as I can for those of you who don't read Swedish:

Quote:
Three People Hurt in Head-On Collision

Three people were hurt, two of them badly in a frontal collision i Pålberget Thursday night. Photo Credit: Maria Johansson

A bad automotive accident occured on road 374 in Pålberget around 4pm Thursday. Three people were hurt, two of them badly. At the same time, all three were sent to Sunderby Hospital to recieve treatment.

Police pointed out the accident was a frontal crash, but the task about how it happened Thursday night and under what circumstances are cloudy. As soon as it is possible those involved will be questioned further.

The accident scene was icy and slippery. Both cars collided head-on and it was over an hour before traffic could be allowed to pass. Under that time grew a kilometer-long back-up of cars.
