That's a wolverine. It does not sing or dance on Broadway, and good luck getting it into spandex or leather.

But it does live as a solitary individual in much of northern North America, Asia, and parts of Europe.

Wolverines are one of the few animals that will voluntarily select prey that are larger than themselves (think moose), and pound-for-pound are among the strongest verterbrates in the world. They're mostly nocturnal, although they're cabable of running on a cat-like schedule of being "on" for four hours, and "off" again for for, in environments with long periods of brightness or darkness.

Sizewise, they're generally between 70-90 cm in length, and weigh in at 20-23 kg (so, two or three feet long, and 40-50 pounds).

They're capable of running up to 50 kph in a sprint, which is just about as fast as a racehorse. They can climb trees, are good swimmers, and are generally excellent predators.

haha, a fluffly rabbit! and a wolverine. it looks all fluffy too...but not something I'd want to cuddle. at all.

I should get a picture of my horse when he's pinning his ears at me. now THAT'S scary. He looks like a bloody nake, y'know? He wrinkles his nose back in a snarl, though he doesn't show any teeth, and his ears are flat against his head so you can't see them, and he looks like a snake the way he moves. Not like he does it very often....anymore.

Oo, we have those in Finland, the name for them there is "ahma" in Finnish and "järv" in Swedish... now you know.

Also, I've seen that fishy-thingy (in post above) before. Looks kind of cute with the big eyes and unusual fins.

I have to agree. I can't even tell what is what on this creature. I'm not even quite sure where the gills are.

Found the name. It's a Longnose Chimaera, apparently they're very hard to find, so the only other pictures I could find on the internet are the ones on this site: http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Species ... fm?id=5053

I have to agree. I can't even tell what is what on this creature. I'm not even quite sure where the gills are.

The more I look at it, the more it starts to look like an alien or perhaps a stage prop for an alien movie. If not that, perhaps a mock up of an extinct creature from the time of the dinosaurs. It just is so surreal.

Edit: LQ, that thing is nuts. It is very appropriate that it is called a chimera because that term is often used for mythical creatures in writing.

VERY cool. It looks like a giant earthworm swallowed a fish or something and the fins poked out of the sides...
