I'm getting braces next week (Clear braces). The thing is, I heard it hurts when they put in braces. Apparently their planning on taking out the Wisdom teeth and taking out other various teeth and I'm freaked out. I don't want to feel pain or anything like that.

Can anyone who has had teeth pulled out or have gotten braces try and explain to me what exactly do they do?

Yeah it hurts like hell. Needles hurt, numbness is weird and having a tooth out is hilariously UNFUNNY. And braces too will make your eyes water with pain, its apparantly like lances in your mouth in the early stages, and you wont be able to eat anyway.

And you'll cry like a wee bairn.

It's Sarah, you're teeth problems extriodare. Not really, but sort of. I've had braces and my wisdom teeth pulled though. For the teeth pulling, they numbed me up and the worst part was the needle. When they pulled it, it was an odd sensation. It didn't hurt, it just made me cringe because it felt strange.
Getting braces doesn't hurt. The only thing that is midly uncomfortable is holding your mouth open for a long time and when they tighten them. But it's not that bad. It sounds worse than it actually is.

And good luck! Braces are worth the fuss in my opinion. :D <-- Me after braces.

Braces don't hurt too much to get put on, it's when you've had them on for a bit and the pressure on your teeth aches like HELL.

I've gotten teeth pulled, no braces though.

The two teeth pullings were odd. The needle was painful, but I was so drugged up on one that the pulling, I didn't notice. And on the other one my tooth was already loose soooooo it came out easily.

Good luck! You'll be fine!

Unfortunately, that's true. :(

When your teeth hurt, eat soft foods. The pressure should really let up after a few days. Some advil or another pain reliever might help for a little while.

Getting teeth pulled is strange, the worst part is the needle and the drooling :P
The first few days after getting barces your teeth will hurt a bit, especially when eating but you'll get used to it and soon you will hardly notice that they're there. They should give you wax that you can stick on it to stop it rubbing. I've had braces for 1 1/2 years now (I should get them off this summer!) adn they don't really bother me any more.

I've had braces, teeth out, and my wisdom teeth out. For the all of my teeth I requested to be put under because I'm not fond of the dentist and I didn't want to feel any pain. They put me out, numbed me and then took care of the teeth. Then they numbed my mouth even more so I wouldn't feel any pain when I woke up. When the numbness wears off you'll probably be sore (I was), but there shouldn't be much pain as far as the teeth getting pulled out is concerned.

Braces, for me they hurt more getting them off and than getting them put in. The first bit it was more of a getting used to the braces period. They didn't have the wires tight or anything, just so I could get used to the feel of the braces. When they tighten the wires, it doesn't really "hurt" as in a sharp pain, it's more of an ache or a throbbing ache, it did hurt though.

All in all now that all that is over and done with I don't think it was so bad. It shouldn't be too bad for you. :) Good luck with all your teeth issues too!

I've had something kind of like THIS. A facebow, had it on at nights. Didn't hurt too much, only when they put the rings onto my upper jaw teeth the first time.

I had it because of my overbite, so this held back my upper jaw letting my lower jaw grow more and even out the situation :P

Also, when I've had some teeth pulled out, I didn't really feel the needle. I was just happy I didn't have to feel my teeth getting pulled out :P lol. The ickiest part was when you felt that sort of crunching squichy sound when they pulled out the tooth. Eww.

I never got teeth pulled out, my dentist is totally against that...

I have had braces before... And it does really hurt in the beggining...
I felt like they did something wrong, and that it was pushing too tightly - and that my teeth my fall out because of it...
Eventually all that goes away after a few days.

Aha, I had that thing too. It sort of pulled on your teeth and made them feel a bit loose, but other than that it was okay. (And I would usually wake up with a spot of drool on my shirt. Heh) Rubber bands are worse though. That was my only braces complaint that I forgot to say. Sometimes it made it hard to speak. I'm glad I only had to wear rubber bands for about a year, most of it being the summer.

Now, I don't have wisdom teeth (Literally, they Xrayed me, I have NONE :D) so I can't help you there, BUT I had braces for 3 years. I never had a problem with them. :) If you have a headache or anything from the pressure, take some Aleve or Advil, and it will go away...I promise :P

I had my wisdom teeth cut out when I was 16. They were completely compacted, and giving me pain. The actual surgery wasn't the worst part, I was knocked out and numb for that. It was the aftermath. My entire mouth was swollen to the point that I couldn't chew at all (not even with my front teeth) so solid food was totally out of the question.
Apparently the dentist did the stitches weird (when I went back to get them taken out, the nurse that did it remarked on how weird it was), apparently, rather than use four seperate pieces of thread (whatever it is they use) he only used two, one on each side, connecting the top and bottom via a single stich through the inside of each cheek. It was really weird.
Anyway, for the week between the surgery and getting the stitches removed, I was miserable. I couldn't eat solid food. The pain medication made me nauseous and made me sleep all the time. The bleeding only lasted for the first day or so, but it was super-unpleasant while it lasted.
But as soon as I got the stitches out, I improved greatly, the swelling went down pretty fast and I was able to eat, and I'm glad I went through with it. Lol, I can still feel the scars in the back of my mouth though.

I've got braces at the moment. I had them tightened just yesterday, they still hurt. :/ Having them put on isn't much of a problem, it's the pressure on the teeth afterwards, like the others said. You'll get used to it, though. The first few days that you have them, stock up on soft foods, like yoghurt and applesauce. You'll be very thankful *nods*

I've never had braces.
I had a retainer once; but those don't hurt.
Never had teeth pulled (Never had a cavity either, which is amazing... considering the amount of candy I eat).

But i've watched other people have it done. And... thusly I must ask...

Can I call you chipmunk when your face swells up?
