Ok, it's time I need to get a new music player! I had my eyes set on iPod Mini Silver, but now, there is....an iriver mp3 player! Between these two I need to pick one. Of course, the price is one important thing and I haven't checked how much they are (in Hong Kong). Other than that, I need help in choosing...Sooo I'd really appreciate it if you PPTers can help :D

I have a silver iPod mini. It's great. The only bad thing about them is that iTunes usually dupes all the songs into a different format so it will take up a fair bit of space on your hard disk.

I recommend iPod mini. I have no idea what this other thing is but I don't know much about portable mp3 players except some of the Creative ones and iPods.

Looking at the iriver website, that player looks beautiful, but it wouldbe good to have a play around with one to see how it handles. iPods are easy to navigate and have games and stuff so they have a lot of extra features but on the other hand, the iriver one has colour display.

I'm sure that they are both great and it would probably depend on what you are personally looking for in an mp3 player.

EDIT: Sorry I don't know which iriver one you are talking about and I assumes the new H10. If you get an iriver that doesn't need to be ultra small then I'd recommend one of those.

I had my heart set on a zen micra, but EVERY shop we went to said they had returned all their stock because it was craptastic. People kept on returning the zen's because they were faulty in every way possible. Iriver is very pretty, but my dad got one. It holds 80 songs
I like my ipod mini pink :D

my friend has an zen micro and it's really good. yeah, I'd stay away from anything from Apple, other products do the same, and usually do it better. so, yeah, I'd have to say get the Zen Micro. :)

Hm... Well ok, let's say that I throw the choice of iPod mini out the window and look at zen micro and iRiver H10.

zen micro:
-5GB
-Long battery life approx. 12 hours(but how long charging time? :P perhaps I missed that a while ago)
-personally I think it looks ok; not bad enough to make me hate it on the first look teehee
-has 10 colours (though some are quite unnatural but yo, 'tis pretty :))
-has a cool name :>
-my other friend said that it has an overly sensitive touch pad
-detachable battery
-the list goes on

iRiver H10
-5 GB
-long battery life
-looks awesome :) (clicky!
-detachable battery
-coloured screen! so you can view photos :)
-just a little larger than zen micro (height)
-the list goes on :P

This is getting harder each time...too bad I can't have both :P Hm...what is direct encoding? iriver H10 has it but I don't know what it is -_-

Looking for your choices, I think you should go with the iRiver. I do know that Apple is known to make excellent sounding products, and from your list it does look like the iRiver is the way to go... sounds like more benefits to me.

Review: So far so good with this player... Pocket-lint pointed out most of the good things so I'll point out the Bad's of it. 1. No dedicated volume button 2. Mediocre touch sensitive scrolling navigation - This may be one opinion but Apple's Click Wheel’s usability is superior. 3. Screen -Why does it have to be square? It would have looked nicer if it was wider. 4. Bundle Package Problems -The music organizer for the player was kind of buggy then again you can just drag+drop 5. The rubber skin HAS TO GO 6. and the bundle earphones suck.

Zen Micro review
Zen Micro again

What do you think?
(It is really getting more difficult...)

Clearly the iRiver is more expensive than Zen Micro. iPod Mini is the cheapest of all (even though still near 2000 HKD)

I've got an iPod mini silver. It's working great so far, no problems. What I'm most grateful for is that my computer just crashed, but I can upload my songs from my iPod into iTunes and I don't have to re-download them :D.

I heard that they're only supposed to last a year, which would suck I guess. You could always get the iPod shuffle (the new one). It's cheaper but it only holds 249 songs or something like that.

I heard three years. The lithium battery runs out after that.
Thats a plus for zen's, you can replace the battery. A must for these sort of products.

It isnt do to with length of time, its to do with the number of charges. It has a finite number of charges in it, and so if you have to charge it, say, every single day, it might only last 18 months to 2 years. And you probably will be charging a lot with a mini, especially if you have it on shuffle, battery life is like 4 hours...
